  1. And then he never pitched again. Jarrod Washout.
  2. Yes, and he also “contributed” -0.4 WAR during the last 40 games.
  3. He worse than contributed nothing. With his -0.9 WAR over the last 40 games, he actively cost us the division title. At least we didn’t have to give up any more than a schlub for him, although, being able to pry Aubrey Huff away from the Orioles for one low minors relief pitcher we got in the 4th round of the prior year’s draft probably should have been a steaming hot red flag to Dombrowski.
  4. Every time I see betting odds on the screen of a sports broadcast, or broadcasters doing drop-ins for gambling sponsors, or commercials for gambling during the breaks of sports broadcasts, a little more of my soul leaves my body.
  5. This should give us a sense of where they Tigers are weak and need help and oh my
  6. IOW, it was a Wednesday for the Rockies.
  7. Man, what a wild slide attempt by Sweeney. My back is killing me just from watching it.
  8. Ahh, this takes me back … ”Fister? I hardly know her.”
  9. McKinstry is turning into a pumpkin.
  10. Nice move by Hurter, and good pickup and release of the errant throw by Tork to finish off the runner at second.
  11. The weird thing about Javy is that his Statcast card is as blue as the sea. His hard hit rate has collapsed, but that’s probably he’s focusing on contact which is his highest rate ever. One of the reason for his surge has got to be his BABIP, which was .382 coming into today and, admit it, those two singles were seeing-eye at best. Which is fine, I’ll take the runs. If I had to guess and assess, I’d say his improvement is due to luck as a result of his hard work changing his approach. He may not be able to keep exactly this up, but there’s no reason he shouldn’t be able finish above the 50th percentile of hitters.
  12. It’ll be the same once they put a team in Salt Lake.
  13. Highest WAR on the team coming into today. in fact:
  14. Aaaand right back out of the jackpot. OK, I’ll stop this now.
  15. Aaaand right back in the jackpot …
  16. People will point to this as evidence that America and the police can’t possibly be racist, since these officers were black like the victim. But when it comes to the police, there is no black and no white. There’s only blue, and that makes cops a different breed altogether, one that transcends race.
  17. I’m not sure what Dan would even say to him!
  18. That‘s the other thing I didn’t mention: the wind swirling around the cold cement at Wrigley makes it feel even colder, also like a freezer.
  19. And just like that the hitters pull Jobe’s ass out of the jackpot.
  20. Ok, I will definitely pause Dan Dickerson to listen to Jack White talk to Jason and Andy.
  21. Kid’s off to a rough start.
  22. Not excusing, just explaining.
  23. I’ve been going to Wrigley Field on the regular for going on 30 years, so, of course I can see all the warts. April and May are, on balance, awful at Wrigley. The lake is to the north and east and the stadium opens to the north and east, and the wind almost always comes whipping off that lake at breakneck speed this time of year. So with water temps still in the low 40s, the temperature drops by some ten degrees versus that outside the stadium. Today, for example, it was 54 degrees on the thermometer, the official feels like temp was 42, and it felt like it was in the low 30s up there. My hands, toes, and knees were very numb by the middle of of game. Add the fact that the upper deck seats are never in the afternoon sun, and it gets very, very wintery up there all the way up to Memorial Day, and occasionally beyond. On the other hand, in July and August, when temps get into the 90s, it gets incredibly hot and muggy up there, and that’s exacerbated by the fact that the winds in the summer come in from the south and west, which is blocked by the stadium behind us (remember, we face north and west). So we get zero breeze up there to help cool us off. Many are the times I sweat like crazy in my seats, and between innings I have to go down the tunnel to the concourse to get some breeze any breeze to cool off. And I love that place. I love it with all my baseball soul. I’m lucky to live here and only a 20-minute drive from it.
  24. But … but … Hillary’s emails.
  25. They are pro-anyone’s administration, since they have an antitrust exemption to protect.
