I’m not sure Reddit is right on this one. When looking west, north is to your right and south is to your left. Here in our part of the Northern Hemisphere (40° to 45° N), when you look west toward the sunset in December, the sun sets to your left (south), and in June to your right (north). That gets flipped around for the Southern Hemisphere: sun sets to your right in December and to your left in June. That’s what’s happening in the picture.
