  1. I think it can be about Christian Nationalism for some, white grievance for others, and about both for still more people. They don't all have to be in it for the same thing. Trump will tailor his message to each. All he cares about is that everyone is in it. I think this is an excellent, and underconsidered, point. "Misery loves company" drives a lot of behavior we all see in our own lives every day.
  2. Dr Projection says: what this is really saying is Republicans make up stuff about BLM and Antifa, and even go undercover as either, so they can have all the fun of destroying stuff while assuming their enemies will get all the blame.
  3. And not even Mexico’s money, as explicitly promised, that it’s a waste of.
  4. Headlights are on!
  5. A lot of that might have to do with southern migration to Michigan in the first half of the 20th Century, but the saturation of populist red state political thinking, I think, is a recent thing, like last decade or so. The feeling was probably always latent, but I think that movement, as it were, might have found its legs with all those bomb-throwing right-wing websites that all started up in the mid to late 2000s, then got supercharged by Trump and his sycophantic right-wing media cabal in the last six or seven or so years.
  6. I can't speak for Wisconsin or Minnesota, but Michigan was "white-settled" mainly by people from the northeast, chiefly New York state. It's one of the reasons why we have cities named Troy, Rochester, Utica, Farmington, Warren, Auburn Hills, Clinton Township, and probably a few others named directly for New York towns or people.
  7. what are the chances any of them show up? 😏
  8. There are no political bonds defining them, but we may already have 11 different nations here.
  9. If only they would all literally be lifted up off Earth and into the clouds.
  10. Please tell us that the only valid stress someone can suffer from their job is physical stress, and that constant job-related emotional stress and intellectual stress mean nothing. Come on, say it outright.
  11. I find way the Trump communications team capitalizes seemingly random words in its missives to be unsettling, because I don’t know whether it means something or nothing. All I know for sure is that it is done for a purpose.
  12. Alex Faldo getting ready for when they move the mound back. Or at least getting ready for the Atlantic League.
  13. What, you haven’t heard about all the people dropping dead from the COVID vaccine? You clearly don’t read certain media. 😏 But I hear you about the requirements to, apparently, protect vaccinated people from infecting each other with a disease practically none of them are in any danger of getting. I’ve told you guys about how how in my city there’s an indoor mask requirement, so many places that require proof of vaccination to enter also require you to wear your mask while inside. It’s bonkers, but it’s all about liability—nobody wants to get sued. Thanks, buddha. 😉
  14. If I had to take an educated guess out of the blue, knowing nothing else, I’d guess that one of the major unspoken reasons Kyle Seager quit is because he has some chronic pain that he doesn’t want to aggravate or perhaps cross the rubicon with by playing another seven months nonstop. I could see someone like that with all the money in hand getting out with whatever is left of his health. It’s certainly not because he’s unhappy with his own performance.
  15. Baseball doesn’t care how the game generates more revenue. They care only that it does. And they’ve figured out that the way to do that is not by introducing the game to young people who might come to love it—that’s a fool’s errand given today’s slow game—but by pandering to the people who want only to make a few bucks off bets. I think that’s a little sad, but that’s the way the world is going, I guess. I hope I die before baseball games become routinely fixed to satisfy Big Gambling.
  16. Of course, the market could fall down for him, too, even though the market was much better than expected for the guys just below him in the free agent rankings. Probably won't know until at least mid-February.
  17. Reasonable consensus that people agree to, basically. It was a reasonable consensus that Correa would get 10/320.
  18. Joke gone awry.
  19. I suppose in a broad way that makes sense. Anyone who thinks about it for more than a few seconds can see that Rand Paul's full of shit, but I guess he's banking on the many people who won't think at all about what's he's saying and are responding only to the emotion he's putting into the tweet.
  20. What's the thinking going into his decision that he would look good and benefit by playing so dumb on this?
  21. COVID is a deep state hoax.
  22. Some thing happened with me when I was prescribed oxycontin after my first knee surgery. I knew nothing about it. I tried it and I still felt as much pain, but I did get constipated, so, net loss. I bailed on it and didn't bother filling prescriptions for it after the next two knee surgeries. Lucky me.
  23. Ha ha ha, what a maroon. What an ignoranimus.
  24. Does Tlaib do anything for her district, or is her sole goal to pursue a national profile? Honest question, I don’t know.
  25. As frustrating as he can be for stretches at a time, I think we’ll be very happy with Javy overall. At his best he is as productive as any big leaguer, and he is a joy to watch playing ball.
