So as much as I despise Trump, I also hate it when people post nonsense that just isn't true and then repost it without taking a second to verify it. The facts are that the President does have authority to impose tariffs under a variety of scenarios and that Congress has granted them the power to do so. If you want to say that Trump is exceeding his authority, that's another argument, but it is just blatant ignorance to claim the President has no authority to impose tariffs. Here's what a quick Google tells us........... Congress has passed laws allowing the president to impose tariffs under specific conditions. These include the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 (Section 232) for national security threats, the Trade Act of 1974 (Section 301) for unfair trade practices, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) during national emergencies, and Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 for international payments issues.
