  1. Ha - you described it perfectly! Also, @oblong example is spot on. I laughed out loud at that.
  2. Yeah me too. For me, the waiting isn’t so much the irritant as much as just that Sunday afternoon Tiger games have always been part of the rhythm of summer for me. i guess it’s a small price to pay for having a noteworthy team.
  3. I agree with that, and I also find that stuff insightful when it’s done well. Obviously, the skill of the writer factors into whether said article is insightful or empty calories. I think Seidel is hit or miss. I do find him less annoying than Albom, to whom I’ve never taken a shine. Can’t put my finger on why, other than it seems he that he’s typically more obvious that he thinks he is with his insights ( plus his really annoying overuse of circling back or looping in his articles)
  4. Yes it did. He’s prone to that.
  5. Yea, read that piece and thought, “carlos is at it again “ deeply stupid article. iirc, there was a time when he was defending Matt Patricia.
  6. Dang, they only scored 7 today. Sometimes you just need to tip your cap to the opposing pitcher. on another note, I see Tork stole a base? How the hell did that happen?
  7. Was beginning to question that for a minute! You almost jinxed him; it appeared that they were going to chase Lee
  8. Oh boy! Everyone eating!
  9. Yeah, who said Harris wouldn’t be aggressive!
  10. Certainly only one game, but as mentioned by Jeff Seidel in the Freep, that 8th inning seemed like an exhale of sorts. I was thinking along those lines as well when it was happening - they were passing he baton as they had been doing earlier this year. I do like the fact that Parker had a decent game, as did some others. I think Zach and Javy are regressing as expected. Need some others to step up, as well as Riley and Carp. Tork has been pretty much consistent, at least compared to what he’s been for the last few months. Also would be nice if Flaherty could bottle today’s outing.
  11. Ha - that same quote went through my head when they put up that 7 spot!
  12. A Bert. I’m pleased. Carry on
  13. I came around to this same thought the other day. Good fielder, but offensively what's the "norm" for Parker - one half year or what he's demonstrated the rest of his career in professional ball? I do sometimes also wonder if it's harder for taller guys to have a sustainable swing.
  14. Really good point. I was thinking recently that he's really only had one good stretch so far in his young career.
  15. Listening to MLB radio this morning, and they had a segment on the Tigers. Phillips says he wants them to do well, but thinks this is a correction and that they lack a superstar in everyday lineup to carry them. Scruggs and the two folks behind the boards were ripping him for that take and saying every team has gone thru this this year. That's pretty much true, but it's easier to say from a distance than when you're emotionally tied to a team. I think the truth is in between. Surely not this bad, but it's fair to say they do not have a top 5 roster at this time. Edit: one more thing, I think too many of the national media gloss over the current woes too much for my taste. Again, maybe it's cos I'm too close to it.
  16. oh my goodness. Just got a chance to check in on the game. I had a bad feeling back in loss 3 of this streak and was told to relax. I figured that was probably right. Guess not. I see Hernandez still getting reps!
  17. Ah yes, remember those days well chasing west coast boxscores. Re Hernandez, clearly out of his depth at this level. Always feel bad though for the human
  18. Could be, or maybe his swing path / approach lends itself to wild fluctuations?
  19. I’m torn on this. As much as I appreciate having a true ace with a seemingly great makeup and attitude, I’m also reticent to commit long term resources to a SP. With Skubes it’s just the potential for another catastrophic injury. One the one hand, he has a solid lower body build, but I’m not expert enough to analyze his motion and if it lends itself to another arm/shoulder problem, though I trust the organization has that expertise. On the other hand, guys like him can be strong for another 10 years, and are extremely hard to find. You can commit $40mm a year to him, or spend at least half of that per year plugging the gaps - assuming you’re perennially in the playoff hunt.
  20. Not best team in baseball, just a team that is getting better year over year. We don’t need to overreact to this losing streak, but we probably shouldn’t have overreacted to the good first half. They are not that team - yet.
  21. He needs to be disabused of that notion. Perhaps he thinks HRs will get him paid, and he may be right, but it diminishes his reliability.
  22. Yes they are. They are back to old ways of making bad pitches look great. I know that sometimes pitchers having a bad year turn in a good performance, but you can’t be “tipping your cap” every fricken game. This is definitely an “us” problem. You could see it coming at the start of this swoon (skid?).
  23. Yeah! We have a deep farm system, right? 🙂
  24. I'm assuming this is sarcasm or a schtick? If not, don't you usually post under the moniker "TP Fan" on Lions game threads?
