  1. You know, technically, I’m supposed to hate the White Sox and Cleveland a ton but it’s the Twins who cut out my heart, threw it on the ground, and urinated on it in the 1987 playoffs. I think my resentments should be aimed at them. But I kind of like them because Harmon Killebrew played for them and he grew up in a small town in Idaho.
  2. I used to be able to have an audio feed that was just crowd noise on mlb.tv I don’t know if that’s gone or if it’s because I’m watching the game on the fire stick. I wish I could do that now.
  3. Kepler scores. Technically after six runs my contract runs out and I don’t get paid for posting. But I might stick around anyway.
  4. Kepler goes to third base on another fly out this time by Tycho to right.
  5. Kepler goes 2nd when Copernicus flies out to right.
  6. I’’m here, I’m horospheric, and people need to get over it.
  7. Yeah it’s sort of like me discussing non-Euclidean geometry.
  8. They hit Babe Goodrum to avoid further embarrassment.
  9. I noticed the ball popped out of Garver’s glove behind the plate. Nothing came of it. I wonder how many Dustin Garneau will have tonight. This seems to be happening with fair frequency. That one just now didn’t count I think he tried to catch it on a bounce. That next one counted.
  10. It looks like Target Field doesn’t use that red clay dirt that a lot of other teams use for the infield.
  11. After only 10 pitches a two strikeouts Ryan finishes with the Tigers. I am still confident that we will win although lead off hitter Brian Buxton just hit a 900 foot home run.
  12. Tigers are up against a rookie they’ve never seen before. Usually this is a recipe for disaster. In four games the guy is even pretty good. The Tigers are also doing poorly against teams in their own division. So I’m going to wager that the Tigers can’t suck forever (a rational mathematical assertion) and they will rebound against this guy and hit him hard (an emotional assertion).
  13. I just remember hating the advantage that playing in the Metrodome appeared to have for the Twins. It was galling. That’s a part of baseball, but given that my attachment to the team is almost completely emotional I have a hard time rising above that to appreciate other things that I can be appreciated as good.
  14. In the “there’s some good news in the world but I don’t know where to put it” department, Britney Spears is now free. I’ve always held her in high regard. She’s a good person thrown into the spotlight of fame who hasn’t always been able to keep her head above water. She’s a hotter version of Judy Garland.
  15. ‘87 brings back painful memories. I still have my satin Tigers warm-up jacket that I bought that year. But even though I’ve never washed it it’s somehow shrunk and very tight fitting now. Very poor construction.
  16. The only rational explanation for all this is that everyone else in the division is using garbage can lids and we’re not.
  17. If the Tigers had played at the same clip against their own division as they have against the rest of baseball they would be 85-72.
  18. The Tigers are 28-43 against teams in their own division - with a losing record against all 4 teams - and 47-39 against everyone else in baseball. In that early bad streak they were 4-13 within the division. So even after that first 32 games and they began to hit their stride they were still only 24-30. You would think the Tigers would have some edge against other teams due to familiarity. But other teams in the division appear to know how to handle the Tigers better than they do them. It can’t be bad luck. AL Central teams must see weaknesses that other teams outside the division cannot exploit as well.
  19. Yeah they begin the season in Oakland and Seattle. Wow. If history has any effect upon the present it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
  20. I feel like the guy that runs for mayor in New York City and always says “the rent is too damn high.“ The season is too damn long.
  21. In all honesty if the season ended a week ago I would’ve been totally fine with that. I’m feeling kind of spent on it. It’s like the last course of a big meal and it’s a dessert wine I’m disinterested in. They gave me a lot of joy this year. Lots of excitement lots of unexpected things and a lot to look forward to. I’m done but they’re not.
