Edmonton didn't even show up tonight. This was a great series for 4 of the games with some really entertaining hockey bring played. But tonight was one of two stinkers in the series.

they showed up.  florida shut them down.

edmonton has two great players, florida has one great team.

I remember back on the old boards laughing at Florida as an organization and as a fan base. Laughing at the fact that they never won a damn thing, laughing at their attendance, laughing that I thought they'd be forced to admit defeat and move hockey out of south Florida. What a turnaround.

From a personnel perspective, they are head and shoulders above most other teams in the league right now. A well run organization with a very well put together team. Watching them play hockey makes you further realize how miserably far behind our roster is compared to theirs. And next year, assuming they can keep the main core of their roster together, they'll be back again next year.

I have to hand it to Bettman. He got what he wanted. He's wanted hockey to fail in Canada and succeed down south. He's gotten multiple Stanley Cup winners down south in Florida over the past decade.

Heard them point out on 97.1 earlier that a US team has won the Grey Cup more recently than a Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup.  The Baltimore Stallions won the Grey Cup in 1995.

Also, Stoney gave us the new Canadian National Anthem.

Toews will sign with Winnipeg when FA starts

He can really make a lot of cash just from games played and making the playoffs wew.  Think these offseason contracts are going to be insane.

Definitely a salary dump for the Oilers (or maybe Bowman draws the line at criminal activity against women but not men?) as they have ~$15.5 million in cap space with 5 UFA and Bouchard as a RFA this offseason.  I also didn't think Kane looked very effective these playoffs.

kane was hurt all year too and is old.

but he's physical and "hard to play against" if that's your thing.

also, will he be nice to elias petterson?  he's fragile...

I'm guessing this is a salary dump for Edmonton? Will they be in pursuit of a goalie this offseason? I can't imagine they want to keep rolling with Skinner.

Skinner would probably be the #1 fa goalie. Slim pickings in fa.

I think what we miss as fans (me especially) is that there are a lot of considerations outside of merely what the players are on the ice.  Like Nill only shopping Marchment to teams with no/low income tax.

I'm guessing big parts of this trade were the Sabres didn't want to trade him to a team in the East (which I always find is a very dumb reason to not get the most value back, but we know they at least only shopped Eichel to west teams so this could be true again) and teams would only trade with the Sabres if they could get a long term extension done with Peterka.  So the interested teams would have needed to fit that in their cap + have the desire to match his numbers on the contract, and Peterka would have to have wanted to sign there long term.

But I also just think the Sabres are a badly run organization, so many guys leave there and seem to shine.

Except Tage Thompson, who's their best player, and the most perfect fit for the Wings.
