Congrats to Bill Guerin for having the sack to make a big move and trade for Quinn Hughes even without a contract commitment.   He knew it wouldn’t be a waste even if he couldn’t sign him long term.   Even if it’s only 2 years,  it’s been a massive success winning their first playoff series in a decade.

Holland got the Oilers to back to back SCF. One win and two wins away from the Cup. He did his job.

Oh man I forgot about the Trent Frederic contract ol rapist protector Stan handed out until I got to reddit:

Another fun thing: Jack Campbells buyout cap hit goes up next season.  They're paying Jarry and Campbell a combined $8 million next season!  And they're stuck with Jarry for two more years because of that trade!

conor mcdavid and leon draisatl did that.  ken got them darnell nurse's contract.

Holland did some good in Edmonton, the Hyman and Ekholm acquisitions were good and the RNH deal is great.

Unfortunately things like the Campbell and Nurse contracts also happened.  To a lesser extent things like Kassian's extension and the Athanasiou trade too.

Fascinating to read the Jim Nill is going to have some tough decisions to make thought pieces already coming out after the Stars fall short yet again.  GMing seems hard!

Yeah, Kenny inherited the two best players in the world. It is a failure that they did not win one together. 

One thing about Stevie is that i think if he had wanted to pull off the Hughes trade, with no extension or promise of extension in place, he could have. And the fans would have loved it and the press would have loved it and the players would have loved it. There are some out there on twitter and elsewhere who complain that Stevie didn’t have the guts to make the big trade. If anything, it probably took more guts not to make it. But he is a Red Wing for life and he absolutely will not make a move that he believes will make the team worse.

Leon having 7 more years left on his contract will make that a bit tougher for him but stranger things have happened.

 

I expect McDavid to bolt after the next two seasons, especially if Bowman is still in charge

There was a tweet I saw the other day, I think it was from Friedman‘s podcast, saying that if McDavid doesn’t come back, Leon is likely to demand a trade. If McDavid goes, then they  are looking at a serious retool, but if they are being honest with themselves, they might just take the opportunity to rebuild.

There’s no way they let McDavid bolt.  They can’t lose him for nothing.  If doesn’t want to come back, they absolutely will trade him.  It’s possible he’s already played his last game as an Oiler and will be traded this summer.
