Shinzaki Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Seems like a decent pick...guess we'll know in a couple years.. I'm more interested in trades and free agency as that's the key to making enough improvement to make the playoffs next year Quote
Cruzer1 Posted June 28 Posted June 28 I think Bear was a need pick. The Wings needed a LW with scoring, so he was the pick. They have depth with defensemen. Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Apparently he blew out his achilles. Hopefully it's something he makes a full recovery from. 😬 Quote
slothfacekilla Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Love the pick if he’s the same player after his injury. Achilles stuff scares me though. Quote

1984Echoes Posted June 28 Posted June 28 PS: High Side Comps (hoped-for wish list): William Nylander, JJ Peterka, Seth Jarvis. Low side? Konecny? Quote
Jason_R Posted June 28 Posted June 28 This source says the injury was a partial laceration rather than a tear. I don't know the difference in recovery/long term prognosis, but the source says he is back on the ice and skating. https://rg.org/news/hockey/carter-bear-on-recovery-mindset-and-his-nhl-draft-dream Seems like a good kid, and seems like he has the kind of mental resilience and mindset that maybe the current Wings roster lacks. But, like Buddha says, he's 18 and won't be with the big club until he is at least 20, maybe 21. He needs a lot of time in the weight room. 1 Quote

Shinzaki Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Completely different player than Rasmussen. Better Completely might be Bert Quote

Shinzaki Posted June 28 Posted June 28 You don't play that many years in the NHL if you can't skate Quote
buddha Posted June 28 Posted June 28 3 minutes ago, Shinzaki said: You don't play that many years in the NHL if you can't skate bert is a terrible skater. he's an agitator. he's tough. he's got great hands. he's a smart offensive hockey player. but the book on bert has ALWAYS been that he cant skate well and that he freelances too much and coasts on defense. its not like ras is kristie yamaguchi either, but he's better than bert. no analogy is perfect. and ras certainly isnt a great comp either. but if were talking FLOOR, for his career, i say a 3rd line big wing/center in a pinch type of guy is probably bear's floor. his ceiling is bert who skates better and plays sound hockey. or travis konechy-type. travis konechny is not bear's floor, imo. its more likely his ceiling. buddha Posted June 28 Posted June 28 (edited) yzerman seems obsessed with big, physical players. which is good considering the wings are so small and soft. it does make me wonder what type of team he wants. speedy and puck possession or smash mouth physical? we seem to be going with....yes. Shinzaki Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Ras is in no way shape or form better than Bert. Bert is an adequate skater..Bear is said to be a decent skater who makes up for a lack of speed with a high motor Quote
slothfacekilla Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Genborg plays the game in a way that should please NHL teams. He’s a rambunctious physical presence, capable of dominating through his strength in the juniors and more than holding his own against grown men in the professional ranks. He hustles hard and throws his weight around on the forecheck, controls the cycle by sealing off pucks and dealing with back pressure and finds ways to win body positioning in the net front. To achieve this, he employs a deep posture and mechanically solid skating stride while also bringing projectable speed. When combined with his dogged determination on the defensive side of the puck, it’s no surprise he was seeing such consistent usage in the SHL this year. But Genborg is more than just your average power forward. He also has some offensive flair to his game. Among all draft eligible skaters in the J20 level this season, it was Genborg who managed the highest goal-scoring pace, averaging 0.68 goals per game across his 28 regular season appearances. A big chunk of his goals came through winning body positioning in the net front for rebounds, deflections and tap-ins, but he’s also got a competent catch-and-release wrister in his arsenal. While he wasn’t as consistent off the rush as off the cycle, there were even some legitimate flashes of dynamism where he humiliated defenders by breaking their ankles and pulling off slick handling moves at the junior level. Realistically, though, Genborg’s NHL projection will mainly come down to his high levels of physicality and two-way commitment, complemented by his potential as a net-front scorer. There are still questions about how much offensive upside he’s going to have at the next level. He’s not the most cerebral player overall, lacks higher-end playmaking instincts and, in many ways, is still raw, even if he’s advanced to the professional ranks quickly. While there will likely be players with higher upside available in his range, Genborg should have a direct path to playing NHL games in a bottom-six role for whatever team drafts him. Quote

slothfacekilla Posted June 28 Posted June 28 (edited) Picking a Holmstrom anywhere in the draft would be a huge homerun, it does sound like he skates a bit better than Homer but we'll see if he has the rest of the package Edited June 28 by slothfacekilla Quote
slothfacekilla Posted June 28 Posted June 28 (edited) Damn, just saw that Spence went a pick ahead of us that woulda been great edit: double ouch Prokhorov right before Spence, those were the two I was kinda hoping would fall to us Edited June 28 by slothfacekilla Quote
slothfacekilla Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Uh oh internet people are going to be pissed the Wings drafted a goalie in round 3 lmao https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/874040/michal-pradel The 6-foot-4.25 goalie is really smooth in his movement and tracks pucks extremely well, he looks both above and around screens, and does a really nice job tracking plays even when he has to go into scramble mode. His rebound control could use some work, but it doesn’t seem to bother him or shake his confidence, especially in big games and high-pressure moments. Quote
