That was 35-40 years ago. It wouldn't happen in today's NBA.

When revenue goes up, salaries go up. It's a pretty simple model, but apparently WNBA players aren't smart enough to realize this and want to take out the player that's actually helping the league get some viewers.

Quote from Windhorst on a podcast today.

Quote

In late April, TWG Global announced a $15 billion capital raising effort and they wanted to create a fund that they would use to invest in sports. $10 billion of that money was invested by Mubadala Capital. Mubadala is Abu Dhabi. You guys have heard me talk about Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi’s deep interest in investing in the NBA and American sport. Mubadala Capital wouldn’t be able to directly buy the Lakers but certainly they couldninvest in something to buy the Lakers. TWG Global has a lot of investors. I’m not saying one piece of money goes to one investment… In their press release from two months ago, they said that they planneed to “build up sizable stakes in a range of sports assets in the years leading up to this investment.” So, they announced a $15 billion raise with $10 billion from Abu Dhabi to invest in sports assets. Two months later, they buy the Lakers for $10 billion. I’m just pointing that out.

houston is a better offensive team now.  durant gives them shooting they didnt have before.  they lose defense in brooks and potential/one on one offense in green.

its a possibility that they are overreacting to one series loss to golden state, where their lack of shooting was exposed.

its also a possibility that they decided to sell high on green.  their extension for him - while a lot on the surface - seemed to hedge their bets a bit against him developing into anything more than a selfish scorer.

but he's still young and athletically amazing.  a good get for phoenix to bet on his development.  brooks supplies the "toughness" ( one might also call it dirtiness) that mat ishbia seems to think he wants this time as he continues to think he can remake the suns into what he imagines tom izzo's spartans were back when he watched games from the end of the bench.

i think its a short term gamble by houston that addresses immediate needs and should make them a better team if durant can stay healthy.  its also a good gamble by phoenix as they get green and the #10 pick to play with and a plethora of second round picks to get the cheap talent they have little other way to acquire.

I know nothing about the NBA but isn't that a ridiculous overpay for Durant?

Athletic gave Suns a D for trade, saying it was not enough for KD

Hell, I was pretty much calling Green for Durant an even trade and everything else just gravy.  Green is only 23 and averages 20 points a game so it seems to me he could really blossom given the right situation.   Durant has had a Hall of Fame career but he's going to be 37 for the 25-26 season so he can't have that much left in the tank.    Maybe it takes Brooks to balance out the trade value but also throwing in the #10 pick just seems like an overpay.

Then again, I already said I know nothing about the NBA.

All trades for KD are bad trades.

If I'm a GM I'm targeting Houston picks 3-6 years from now. Recent history in Brooklyn and Phoenix tells us those will be valuable.

Green was a disaster in the playoffs. Almost unplayable, and didn't get off the bench down the stretch in multiple games.

He can score but does absolutely none of the small things needed to win games. He will eventually find his way to Charlotte, New Orleans, Washington, or some other perpetual losing team. He will score a ton of points, make a ton of money, and lose a ton of games.

The Thunder and Pacer rosters are loaded with guys I would take before Green, and I'm not talking about their stars. I mean Caruso, Dort, McConnell, Nembhard, and Nesmith.

espn gave houston a b+ and phoenix a b.

D is pretty harsh for a return on an oft-injured 37 hear old who is about to make $60 million per year.  even is he is a still a great shooter.
