Same goes for a pitcher's error goes as unearned runs as well, which I never can understand. A pitcher make the error, that should be go against him.

Pitcher doesn’t make the error while pitching. He makes the error while fielding. Fielder’s’ errors don’t count against the pitching record.

What I have been questioning for some time is when a pitcher gives up a boatload of runs after two outs plus an error, all the runs scored after that are considered unearned, even if the pitcher gives up a bunch of homers along the way. That idea is sounding less logical to me as I go.

Not likely but much more than 0% chance.

They are currently 17 under .500 and 2nd worst team in the NL.  They aren’t playing a bunch of young players like Rockies, Marlins, and White Sox.  Their entire everyday lineup is 28 or over.

Their farm system entered the season ranked 27th.  They are desperately in need of talent.

If the team with the top farm system in baseball were to offer their top 4 prospects, not only should they listen but they should trade Skenes without hesitation.      They would immediately have maybe the best overall farm system in baseball and their fans would actually have something to be excited about for the future.

I can’t see Scott Harris doing something like this but it would definitely make sense for the Pirates if he did.

Paul Skenes is under team control through 2029, which is four full seasons after this one, and he’s making the minimum this year and next year. Do you really believe the Pirates want to get out from under the money they would pay him through the end of next year just to give that same money to some rando they call up from AAA? Saving that money only makes sense if they want to reduce their active roster to 25. Or are they legitimately so worried about what they expect their situation to be in 2027 that they simply have to save that future money today?

I gotta think even the Pirates must believe they have some chance to make the playoffs in the next five seasons, at which point they will need the ace in their pocket. Every team thinks that. Even we thought that in 2019. Unless you’re telling me that the PIrates are so blatant about not giving a s*** about winning at all that they’ll sell off their golden goose to save future money in exchange for bunch of worse players in return?

I think our disconnect starts with the premise that I don’t think the Pirates have a chance to win anytime soon.  I want to believe that their front office sees that.

They suck and aren’t even playing any young players, which all the other mlb teams that suck are at least doing.

They are a small market team and the only way they can ever get better is to build from their own farm system.   That farm system is average to weak but its strength is starting pitching.   Trading their most valuable asset would get them prospects to become the top farm system in baseball.   One trade would take them from a very weak future to one that suddenly has some forecastable potential.

I also believe both the term and dollars of Skenes controlled contract makes him even more valuable on the market.   They can ask for even more because of the favorable contract.    There is some added value to them if they choose to move off his very team friendly deal which I agree they ideally wouldn’t want to do.

Again, unless Skenes asks out (which he really has no leverage on), I don’t see them making a trade.  It’s a big, bold move and the Buccos aren’t a big, bold franchise anymore.   They chances are definitely more than zero and it may actually be the right move for them to make

Skenes is a money maker, which is far more valuable than maybe winning more in the future for the Pirates owner.

They're not trading him until he's got a year left.
