The Studio is one of the best shows of the year, although I wish against hope that they would dial down the slapstick, and dial up the absurdity related to professional intrigue. The Ron Howard scene is Exhibit A for this point. The way he eviscerated the Seth Rogen character in the conference room was utterly delicious, so amazingly against type—but once it evolved into a slapsticky physical fight, complete with faceplants into food, that really took the shine off it for me. But hey, it’s Seth Rogan, so I have to accept that as part of the bargain. I would be a nice surprise to see them ratchet down the slapstick for Season 2. Quote
