Detroit Pistons

Cade Cunningham will finish top three in MVP voting: Cunningham has increased his scoring numbers in each of his first four seasons, finished tied for seventh in MVP voting last year and shot 7 of 12 from behind the arc during the preseason. If he can take the proverbial leap as a 3-point shooter, don’t be surprised if Cunningham pushes the Pistons into the upper echelon of the East and finds his name atop MVP ballots in the process. The 24-year-old notched nine of his 11 career triple-doubles last season and will be tasked with even more responsibility in 2025-26. More responsibility means more opportunity, and now he has the Association’s attention. — Hunter Patterson

I think, barring injuries, they’re a playoff team again. It’s time to develop playoff habits during the regular season.

Things I want to see this year:

  1. Cade — Be aggressive from the start. This team runs best when he looks to score first and distribute second.

  2. Cade’s efficiency — Target a true shooting percentage near 60%.

  3. Ausar — Operate as a secondary ball handler, both with and without Cade on the floor.

  4. Duren — Improve both perimeter and interior defense; he needs progress in both to earn a second contract.

  5. Ivey — Become at least a neutral defender. If he averages 18–20 points and shoots over 38% from three, that’s enough.   Basically, he can't be hunted by offenses in the playoffs.

The 46.5-win projection feels right. If things break well, they could reach 50 wins and contend for the 4th or 5th playoff seed.

Here's the thing.   Last year they caught a lot of other teams off guard and I think a lot of opposing teams thought they were a fluke, so they weren't mentally focused against the Pistons.     They still really haven't proven they weren't a fluke yet.   Teams will be ready for you now.     Here comes the hard part.  You have expectations for the first time in a decade.  The goal of this team should be the Eastern Conference Finals.  That's a big jump, but that should be the goal.   If Beasley played like he did in the regular season in that Knicks series, they'd have won that series.      Someone needs to fill his void this year, plus Cade, Ausar and Duren need to stay healthy.    Ivey coming in later will be like adding a trade piece.   I see them having about the same record as last year, but they aren't catching anyone by surprise this year and they could possibly acquire another star before the season is over.

Boy it would be nice if the Wings could make the playoffs and we could have all four teams in the playoffs in the same calendar year.   When was the last time that happened.   Ever?

I wonder if he dresses.  I think two-way players can dress for 50 games.

He should just be the backup PG. It's so obvious, especially with no Ivey and probably no Sasser (although I'd play him over Sasser anyway).

ummmm....other than cade, who on this team can score?

They’ll call a play for Tobias out of the timeout. That’s usually where they go to calm things down.
