slothfacekilla Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Kasper hasn't been medically cleared to play for Austria at Worlds, apparently he's been on crutches since the season ended with a knee injury https://hockey-news.info/nhl-export-kasper-ich-muss-im-moment-mit-kruecken-gehen/ (austrian link) I figured something was up but I wonder how long he was pushing through that Quote

Biggest legacy of the goal was the Avs-Wings rivalry. If the Wings had lost to their Blues there would have been no Claude Lemieux-Kris Draper incident. The goal also eliminated any chance of Yzerman being traded. Quote
lordstanley Posted yesterday at 07:26 AM Posted yesterday at 07:26 AM (edited) This is a name I’d like, although I doubt Yzerman would do an offer sheet. Edited yesterday at 07:27 AM by lordstanley 1 Quote
buddha Posted yesterday at 06:42 PM Posted yesterday at 06:42 PM pranshanth on the wwp: cossa's not ready to be an nhl goalie. fundamentals fall apart at the end of every season. Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted yesterday at 07:53 PM Posted yesterday at 07:53 PM At some point it has to be sink or swim no? Cossa needs to just be called up and given the chance to play at NHL game speed, against NHL talent. The guy is going to be 24, if he isn't ready at 24, then when? Quote
buddha Posted yesterday at 08:01 PM Posted yesterday at 08:01 PM we're going to find out, because he has to be on the nhl roster this year. Quote

He is ready to be an NHL backup. Late season struggles are either energy or psychology. Does he lose the stamina or does he wilt under pressure? The guy is six and a half feet tall, so it wouldn’t surprise me if his muscles are still catching up to his bones. Quote
lordstanley Posted yesterday at 08:21 PM Posted yesterday at 08:21 PM If his issue is that he runs out of steam, then limit his starts. Which you would do naturally anyways. 20-25 as a backup. Can build up from there. Not unlike innings limits on young pitchers, no? Quote
Jason_R Posted yesterday at 09:19 PM Posted yesterday at 09:19 PM Yeah, I don't buy into all the handwringing about Cossa. He’s played 41 and 39 games in the AHL and looked pretty good outside of losing steam. He needs to be in the NHL with NHL coaching and NHL training facilities. He needs to practice against NHL players and play 25 games with Postava coming up to spot start and Gibson dialing it back from 57 starts (second-most in his career) to 50 or just under. Gibson wore out at the end of the season too. Quote

buddha Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago btw, grand rapids eliminated tonight. a big zero from everyone important except mbn. mbn has been great in GR, but he's still slow. profiles as a good third line player (like most of the red wings top prospects). Quote
Jason_R Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Yes, I listened to Iyer wringing his hands. For better or worse, I don’t think Stevie is wringing his hands. And maybe his nonchalant attitude toward prospects is at issue here. Certainly none of us fans or none of the press would have balked if they called Cossa up around the all star game when articles like this were being posted about him: https://www.flohockey.tv/articles/15400654-sebastian-cossa-leads-nhl-prospects-to-watch-at-2026-ahl-all-star-classic They didn’t call him up and nobody knows their reasoning for it and nobody knows how it would have ended. Maybe it would have turned out great, giving Gibson more rest down the stretch and letting Cossa get a taste of the NHL. Maybe Cossa was destined to have a late season slump no matter what and it would have been a disaster. From Cossa’s point of view, he probably feels like he is ready to compete in the NHL. He probably feels like there is not annything else he can prove in the AHL. For all we know, he has gotten halfway through the last two AHL seasons playing great hockey, expected to get called up, didn’t, and got bored. Maybe he should be blamed for his late season sloppiness, maybe Stevie should be blamed for his slow handling of Cossa, but he needs to be in the NHL next year, practicing against NHL players, getting NHL coaching and training, and getting about 25 starts. 1 Quote
buddha Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago given how much better wings players get when they LEAVE detroit, maybe he doesnt need nhl coaching in detroit? regardless, i suspect he will be with the wings next year in a backup role. i think that was always the plan. however, i dont think gaudy ahl goalie stats translate to the nhl. but its better than being average in the ahl, like say...nate danielson. buddha Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago right now, the odds are MUCH higher that the wings finish last in the division than finish first. its a very depressing time to be a wings fan. Quote
