Been saying for a while he's overrated and a terrible drafter but still surprised by this move. They just extended him. Considering also how late they fired him, I think it may be for personal conduct and not on field performance.

I agree. This is remarkably late.

I do think there is a chance he had an extra eye on him from above in the 2026 draft preparations that wasn't there previously, because of just how bad a drafter he has been. It's possible that they observed him repeating many of the same mistakes in prior years and decided something needed to be done before he ruined another draft. Too bad.

I still have no idea why someone from the Bears from office was coveted and not the Lions.

Lance Newmark, our former Director of Player Personnel, was hired away by Washington last season. Dave Sears, our Director of College Scouting, was also hired away last year by Arizona. I'd say having two front office people hired away makes us coveted. I suppose Assistant GM Ray Agnew could get a GM job. I don't know that any team wants to give John Dorney yet another shot at being GM considering he's had 3 chances already. Dorsey seems to be an abrasive person, who burns bridges on occasion.

The Vikings GM.   You draft JJ McCarthy in the Top 10 picks.  That means he's your guy for the next decade, but he's hurt, so you sign a Band Aid.  The Band Aid has an amazing season.    But then in the game that matters most - the last of the season, your division opponent rips the Band Aid off and shows his flaws.    So you turn back to the guy that you made your next Decade starter by picking him at #10 and let the Band Aid go away.      The Next Decade guy plays like a rookie and it's discouraging while the Band Aid has a great season and is going to the Super Bowl.

That's a tough spot there, man.

For Vikings fans, - keep in mind - JJ McCarthy looked better than Sam Darnold did in his rookie year.    That's why, 8 times out of 10, rookies probably shouldn't be counted on to do much.  Gotta be patient.    I know CJ Stroud and Jayden Daniels made you believe that rookies can be amazing all the time, but they are unicorns and well, they weren't as good in their follow up seasons - once teams figured out some weaknesses.       It would be beyond foolish to give up on JJ now, although I can see some sort of scenario where the Vikings trade McCarthy and picks to Arizona for Kyler Murray.

Wait, they can't possibly do that because of the Salary Cap?     yeah, Salary Cap, that's cute.
