Zakk_Wylde Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I'm embarrassed to say that it's literally been over a decade since the last game I was able to attend in person. Where is the best place to park these days? What kind of cost should I be budgeting for parking? "Back In My Day", I used to park in an underground lot below Grand Circus Park that was steps from the park and it only cost $5. Is that lot still around? I imagine the days of it costing $5 are long gone? Quote
oblong Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I parked there in the beginning of Comerica but once got stuck via a stalled vehicle so never again. The free and low cost parking around the stadium are pretty much gone with new construction going on. I now use the ParkWhiz app to get parking ahead of time as many of the lots are part of their system. You pay ahead of time and get a barcode to get in. If you want to try street parking over off of Cass north of 75 that's an option if you don't mind walking. It's usually in the $20-30 range. Quote

We had no idea why we couldn't get out, but it took forever and then it was fine, cars finally began moving and we drove up and all traffic was gone. Ever run into an issue where you have an issue getting to a lot that you grabbed a spot via the ParkWhiz app? That's been part of my hesitancy with it, that i'll pick a spot, be happy with the price and it'll end up where traffic is stupid or construction pushes everyone to one area that I have to go to for that spot. Whereas without it, if something like that is happening I could just go around and try to find an open lot a little further away and just enjoy the walk. Quote

If you come in from the West, I like to take 94 to Livernois, South down to Mich Ave, East to Cass turn north, cross Grand River and all the lots on the West side of Woodward are right there. Also an easy exit going back the same way as you stay out of the ramp traffic near the stadium. Haven't been down this year yet but I think those also were $20-30 as of last season. Quote

If traffic looks to be backing up near 96 I either get off at Warren and that to grand river or will try to hit the grand river exit, which was closed a long time. Heading down grand river if you stay in the right you avoid the line of people, who for whatever reason but I’m glad they do, try to turn onto the 75 service drive. It looks like a backup but you fly right by. Then turn down Elizabeth near the new UM school. My lots are either 2130 or 2055 Cass. 2055 is better I thjnk because a right turn exiting takes me to Michigan and I take that back to Trumbull to get back to 96 to 94, avoiding the traffic at grand river and 75. if there’s a ton of people or an event at Ford Field then I pick a lot by LCA. For wings games I usually park in the structure if I’m fortunate to get a suite pass, if not then of those same lots and walk it. Quote

Just avoid those closest. The ones I mention above are usually stress free. Depending on where you come from. Quote
Cruzer1 Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Rob, I was at a game a couple of weeks ago, and parked in the z-parking garage using that app. It was quite a long walk, both to the game and from. It cost 15.90, but a better deal might have been right off Madison, where they are now accepting credit cards, and it cost 20 bucks that night. Quote
diaspora04 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago United Methodist is always my first choice, but I get there only once or twice a year and arrive early. Quote
Shelton Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I like to park down near campus martius. I like the walk up Woodward or Randolph or Brush. Jacoby’s is down there. More importantly, the walk down after the game is nice, and then jumping right onto Lafayette->Lodge is clean. Folks like to park at the MGM for free and hoof it over, but that is far less charming. oblong Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I used to have a spot at bagley and grand river, next to the gaslight, but honestly once everything went cashless that is why I quit parking there. But you can find some good spots in that area. Quote

Years ago, when local TV ratings wars were the thing, one of the Detroit stations brought in a new crew, mostly hired from out East. The station with the people with most local depth started running commercials against them that highlighted an anchorperson representing one of the foreign imports mispronouncing Gra.tee.ot. It was a very well done takedown. In the Detroit area there are two road names that betray the foreigner - Gratiot, and for West siders 'Lahser' which the unfamiliar (including too many Detroiters actually) invariably dyslexicly read and pronounce as 'Lasher' Quote

In the Detroit area there are two road names that betray the foreigner - Gratiot, and for West siders 'Lahser' which the unfamiliar (including too many Detroiters actually) invariably dyslexicly read and pronounce as 'Lasher' When Van Earl Wright had his brief stopover in Detroit they had some fun with that concept. It was a night of a snow storm and they had him take a turn reading the school closings. When he got to L'anse Creuse the others started laughing like "Ok, how's he going to do this one?' Another is Westland. We say it West Land. Foreign readers of things like traffic and news reports will get caught saying "Westlund" Near me is a street called Dartmouth. I say Dart Mouth. Everyone did. Then I moved to Croissant after getting married. I said it "Cruh-sant". then I got scolded for turning into a snobby Dearborn resident instead of a lowly Heights resident who said "Croy-sent" Getting back to parking... if you do use the ParkWhiz app for events, I always suggest typing in the name of the event. That gets linked to it. It's important for TIger games as if there's a rainout you will get your money back. But if you can't find a spot in one of the lots on the app, try changing the event to something else. Sometimes they reserve places for things going on at The Fillmore or Fox or LCA. During the playoffs in 2024 when they announced one of the games as a day game, I snagged a spot for $10 beacuse the owners of that lot near Elephant and Co. didn't update their pricing in time. It was $50 everywhere else. Quote
