  1. If you could get Smith for a Day 3 pick and Arden Key for a Day 3 pick... I'd say grab them both.
  2. Hey folks, I've started a project and would love to have some input and/or help. Next year marks the 90th anniversary of the greatest sports season in history and I think way too many people don't know about it... even Detroit fans. I'm guessing a few of you are asking: What happened 90 years ago? Well: Tigers win their first World Series Lions win their first NFL Championship Red Wings win their first Stanley Cup Joe Louis is named AP male Athlete of the year after going a perfect 11-0 in the ring. And those are just the BIG stories. Anyway as I mentioned I think this is a largely forgotten story so I'm trying to do a little bit to bring it back into the spot light. I've started making a fandom wiki to collect all the stories and people together in one place. I would certainly appreciate any comments on what you like or what could be done different/better... and I'd also greatly appreciate any help. Currently I only have 21 pages done, and many of those are just hubs listing people. I need to build out many, many more pages particularly synopsis of the people involved. So if you feel like adding anything I'd be very grateful. Here's the link to the DETROIT city of CHAMPions wikipEDIA... or the DETROIT CHAMPEDIA: https://detroitcityofchampions.fandom.com/wiki/Detroit:_City_of_Champions_Wiki
  3. It's like on Hell's Kitchen (one my wife's favorite shows) where the challenges seem to some how, some way ALWAYS come down to the last two contestants from the red team and the blue team.
  4. I think it's also worth noting that the indiscretions here may all be minor things depending on the full facts, which we'll likely never know. Gambling: I think we all agree it's a stupid rule. That doesn't absolve him, but it does explain that with the complications and nuances Jamo may not have known the rule he was breaking or knew the rule but thought he was following it. PES: IF he had a legit prescription, then it's a matter of not reporting it to the NFL. Not a good thing, but far less of a bad thing than taking PES to try to cheat. Gun: This isn't a case of Jamo flashing the gun around or threatening people with it. It's a case of (allegedly) having it for his own protection and he just hadn't gotten all the permits to carry it the way he was. But even in these "best case" scenarios there's a lack of understanding on Jamo's part: He doesn't understand the gambling rules fully or he doesn't understand he'll get caught if he breaks them. He doesn't understand the reporting rules for drugs or he doesn't understand he'll get caught if he breaks them. He doesn't understand you need a CPL to carry the gun like that or he doesn't understand he'll get caught if he breaks the law.
  5. It's a maturity issue, at least in my professional opinion... and you can trust me... I'm an IT guy who reads news stories and random internet posts by strangers. 🙂 Seriously though, it just feels like the kid needs to grow up. Yesterday I was going to make some comment about him Jamo possibly being Titus Young 2.0... but that felt completely wrong so I never made the comment. Young was messed up in the head and it made him do a lot of weird stuff both on the field and off. Jamo just seems to be doing just we likely all might have done in our late teens if we had stupid amounts of money. You act before you think things all the way through. It seems like a good idea at the time so you do it and then later look back and go: "Oh... yeah, um... that was probably stupid." Just for most of us we didn't have enough money to make supremely stupid and we weren't big enough celebrities that it was reported about in the news. Now most of us have matured enough that we actually check the how deep the water is before we jump in. For Jamo he's got everything working against him: He's a little late in the maturity development... he's got the stupid amounts of money... and he is a big enough celebrity that it's being reported. The things that makes him supremely different than Young are these: First, he seems to supremely love the game. He really looks like he's having fun out there and wants to be successful. Second, he seems to be a team player who is willing to do the non-limelight things to help the team win.
  6. IF there was someone higher up who called off the arrest/investigation/whatever, that isn't on Jamo. Obviously we don't know all the details here but if Jamo and his brother where speeding, got pulled over, and then the cops started going further in... you could blame that part of Jamo or his brother. But calling off the proceedings... that's on someone higher up. And if one of the officers loses a job because of it, that's on the higher up. Obviously this assumes that this is what happened... that the onsite cops were going to arrest but got called off my higher ups. Blaming Jamo would be like saying it's I'm responsible for a death because I didn't signal that I was going to turn left so the guy going 75 down a side street while drunk didn't know I was turning left until too late and swerved around me, lost control of his car and crashed it and died. I may be responsible the incident starting... but if the other guy wasn't drunk or going WAY too fast it would have been a minor fender bender, not a death.
  7. Well shoot... that was stupid of me.
  8. Pascal is out for week 8. Our pass rush is going to suuuuuuuuuuuck. 😞 https://nfltraderumors.co/nfc-notes-josh-jacobs-tyrique-stevenson-bears-lions-packers/
  9. I too think there is a good chance that the Lions do NOT make a big splash. In fact... you know that one vote in the poll saying the Lions won't make a trade? Yeah... that's me. That said, I do have the feeling that this might be a "what if?" year for the Lions if they don't trade. That's not to say that the Lions can't or won't win it all without bringing in a big name rusher. It also doesn't mean that if they DO bring in a big name rusher that they will win it all. But if they don't bring anyone in and they fall short... I think a lot of people will wonder: "What if?" I can only remember one other "what if" season in my time as a Lions fan: 1999: What if Sanders had not retired unexpectedly before that year? The Lions were off to a 6-2 start and had just beat the eventual SB winner St. Louis Rams. Of course Batch got hurt in that game and the wheels fell off the wagon. The Lions finished 2-6 and lost their playoff game in Washington. I always wonder: What if Sanders had stayed for one more year? What if Batch hadn't cracked his ribs? Might we have gone somewhere that year?? I'll really hate to look back at 2024 and wonder: "What if we'd picked up a little help?"
  10. If we have to lose one, I'd much prefer it being the Texans game. I'd rather have the bragging rights and of course the divisional standing advantage of beating the Pack.
  11. Yeah, I'm hoping for a win here, but expecting a loss for these reasons: Goff's ankle: I'm hoping it's a non-factor and he's fine, but I'm just not sure he's going to be 100%. DL-front 7 injuries: Too many injuries here and unless we get a trade option in today (Tues) I don't think he's going to be ready for full reps in our system by Sunday. OL inconsistent: To be fair, the Titan's defense is good, but man our OL looked questionable against them. Jamo out: Yes we have plenty of other weapons, but having a key player out never helps. The Packers: I hate to say it, but they're good and we'll be playing in GB. I absolutely believe that the Lions CAN win this game. I'm not even sure I'd call it an upset if they do win. But I also very realistically see this as a game they could lose and I won't call it an upset if they do lose (unless they get just totally crushed).
  12. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I want my NFL games with my home town announcers. It's fortunately gotten better with the Lions improving, but I'm sure we all remember when the Lions were unknowns... player names mispronounced, incorrect info mentioned, or the same tied old crap game after game after game (Did you know that Stafford and Kershaw used to be team mates in highschool?!?). I want my announcers who know my team and know what stories are actually interesting and not rehashed trash. And yeah, I fully get that they'll be a little more homer-ish and that their bias will creep in. I'm 100% fine with that.
  13. If I had to guess I'd say this is "coach speak" for: We know damn well why he tested positive, but we're not going to publicly admit that and you beat your ass that we're letting him know how stupid he is so moving forward it better not "mysteriously" happen again.
  14. But was it on hotel property or on the sidewalk outside... which is technically public property, so...
  15. I feel like if they're going to add help it needs to be very soon. If we want the help to be able to play against the Packers he needs to get in the building ASAP to get up to speed on the Lions scheme.
  16. Right! There in lies the key. It's usually pretty easy to get a great player in the first round, but what do you do after that? Prior to Holmes, how many star, or even super solid contributors did get draft outside of round one? 2020: Jonah Jackson was a 3rd. (J. Okwara was also a 3rd, but never was more than a rotational guy at best.) 2019: Will Harris in round 3 was the best there. 2018: Tracy Walker was a 3rd... he was at least solid. 2017: The first "star" player, round 3: Kenny Golladay... and that might be more Stafford than Golladay. -- JRM was also drafted here in the 4th. 2016: Graham Glasgow was a 3rd. 2015: ??? 2014: ??? 2013: Probably the best draft class before Holms: -- 2nd round: Darius Slay --5th round: Sam Martin --6th round: Theo Riddick Now look at since Holmes started drafting: 2021: 3rd: McNeill, 4th: St. Brown, 4th Barnes 2022: 3rd: Joseph, 6th: Rodriguez 2023: 2nd: LaPorta, 2nd: Branch
  17. See, this is why so many of us were unsure of Goff way back when. The Lions got lucky this game. 85 passing yards? Simply awful. Let's hope Hooker develops quickly.
  18. So... anyone we want to prevent from getting on a plane this afternoon?
  19. I think he did yeah. At first I thought they just put Hill in there because they were getting blown out so bad, but then they would have gone back to Stafford later on and didn't. Then late in the "highlights" I think I heard one of the announcers say that Stafford got hurt.
  20. Looks like he cam up a defensive guy... so I wonder if his role is telling the offense how the defense might respond to various things?? On two side notes: I suspect Saleh is going to be a regular interviewee come the off season to appease the Rooney Rule. If Saleh is not hired as a new HC and if Aaron Glenn gets an HC job... should we consider Saleh for the DC role or is it better to promote from within to keep the philosophy/scheme in place?
  21. I mean... I'm no expert here, but this seems like it wouldn't be super easy to falsify. I could see a compliant doc giving a 'back dated' diagnosis. That wouldn't be too hard. But providing a valid, and filled, back dated prescription wouldn't be quite so easy I don't think. I don't think a pharmacy is going to willy-nilly alter their records to show that they handed out a controlled substance to a customer, and even if they did they financial records wouldn't match. These are things that leave an electronic paper-trail that's outside of their ability to easily manipulate. That means they could be investigated, found to be lying... and lying about dispensing a schedule II drug. I can't imagine that that is not without significant criminal penalty risk. Now if it's a case of Jamo providing a doctor's diagnosis but he got the Adderall outside "normal" channels then I think I'd agree that this is almost certainly a falsified doc record and he wasn't legally taking the drugs.
  22. Well, we did go for it on 4th and inches in OT from the 7 yard line instead of kicking the FG to tie it. Now that's sorta understandable in that you SHOULD be able to make that and then you have 3 chances to win the game with a TD and still are able to kick the FG to tie it (that would give the Titans the chance to win via sudden death). So it seems like that's the right move. But this was still the SOL, not the BNL, so even though a team SHOULD be able to make 4th and inches, we fumbled the snap and didn't get it.
  23. If Jamo has a valid prescription for Adderall but did not inform the NFL, the NFL might be saying: "We didn't know that, show us the medical records, if it checks out we'll cancel the suspension." This seems unlikely as this would be a pretty clear-cut instance where Jamo would/should appeal. Or the NFL might be saying: "We didn't know that, you need to inform us, the two game suspension is the penalty for not informing us." This also seems unlikely. A two game suspension for failing to report a medical status seems excessive. I could see a fine, but no a suspension. Or the NFL might be saying: "We know you have a prescription, but I don't think it's valid." In this situation I'm assuming the NFL would think Jamo shopped around doctors until he found one willing to diagnose him as having ADHD and need meds for it. If this is the case that's opening a whole can of worms where the NFL is going to start vetting doctors. I'm nearly positive the NFL doesn't want to start do that.
  24. Just put Branch in as WR. He's got the hands for it.
