  1. It almost was a fumble and I can see why the players thought that too. I also wanted him to challenge. The ball carrier was definitely on top of a Lion when the ball came out... it's just that his knee hit the ground BEFORE he rolled on top of the Lion player and lost control of the ball.
  2. It seemed to me that whenever Monty was in the game that the defense keyed in on him. Like they knew it was his home coming and that the Lions wanted him to have a good game so they figured when he was in there he was getting the ball and the defense sold out on stopping him. To further this thought, I think the Lions took advantage of this on the Monty-Pass play. The defense keyed in on him to stop the run and then "oops, here's a TD pass."
  3. Clean hit though... I thought at first he got helmet to helmet... with the flags thrown right after the hit that seemed to confirm it. But then the penalty was on the Lions and the replay showed it was a clean hit.
  4. Couldn't he see that his hand what on the blue line?!? Seriously though I saw that before the play started and I was thinking "crap, there's a free play." Then he gets a sack erased for it... at least he had only himself to blame for that one.
  5. I'm probably reading too much into the clip, but it definitely looks like he got a bit befuddled there. It almost seems like he was lagging on his decision on whether to go for the ball.
  6. https://www.freep.com/story/sports/2025/07/23/michigan-panthers-move-ufl-2026-season-usfl/85332093007/ Here's a better link with no paywall for the article. Can't say as I'm shocked, and honestly I'm like super upset or disappointed. I did try to watch Panthers games when I could and even attended one in person. But it's not like I was a rabid fan who's heartbroken or anything.

  8. I also wouldn't mind seeing him in for a few plays just to get his feet wet before going full speed the following week.
  9. You ducking from us or are you ducking from Cam?
  10. I don't think it's fair to say that that game led to Patricia. I mean EVERYONE knew that Quinn wanted to bring in Patricia. That game might have been the excusing, but the decision to hire Patricia was made before the ink was dry on Quinn's contract.
  11. I don't want to be "overreaction" guy, but... do any of these guys really strike you a solid pieces to build around? Baez? No. Carpenter? Maybe. Dingler? Probably yes. He's a good catcher and provides enough offense to be a core player. Greene? Probably yes, but man he's streaky as all get out. Ibanez? No. Jones? No. Jung? Not right now, no. I mean he might turn it around but right now he's not getting it done. Keith? Maybe. Malloy? No. McKinstry? No. He's a good utility guy and had a career year, but he's not a core player. Meadows? Too early to tell, but he had an awful year, so not someone I'm counting on. Perez? I dunno, Maybe? Rogers? No. Too old to be a "build around guy," plus not great offensively. Good back up. Sweeny? No. Torres? No. Torkelson? Not really, no. Vierling? Maybe... if he can stay healthy? 17 position players and I only have two that I'd say I'd be comfortable with their production from this year moving forward... and one of those is as much about his defense as it is his offense, while the other is so streaky that Windex turns around and runs away whenever it seems him. 4 Maybes... and 11 nos. Now, it's certainly possible that some of those nos still figure it out. Many of them are still in their mid 20s so there's a bit of time yet... but goodness I just don't have faith right now that many of them will figure it out, I just don't.
  12. Too bad we couldn't have matched up last years second half with this years first half.
  13. Bah! I don't need reality. I want to be the old man yelling at the clouds. But also, a foot and a half outside and swing at it isn't much better.
  14. Baez swinging at a pitch three feet outside? Wow... never seen that before.
  15. Mize out now? Why do early?
  16. I don't know that he was safe, but I do know there wasn't clear evidence to overturn what was called. The right hand might have touched the bag (before the tag), might not have. Really, really hard to tell looking at the camera angles we saw. Without clear evidence it should have stood as called.
  17. How in the world do they overturn that? There was no clear evidence there in my humble opinion.
  18. I dunno... I mean he's a decent QB and all, but his passer rating and accuracy are complete garbage when the opposing teams defense has their arms wrapped about him and are pulling him to the ground.
  19. Climatic may be the wrong word... satisfying isn't really the word either because in a "normal" game one fan base is obviously going to be unsatisfied. I dunno... I guess the point I'm trying to make is that games that end in ties generally aren't fun/climatic/satisfying/[insert appropriate word here], but that's okay. In an ideal world I'd love to see NFL games just extended by 10 minutes as often as necessary until it ends with one team having more points. But this isn't realistic given type of game involved. And if the only reasonable way to avoid ties to convoluted weird stuff that doesn't feel like regular football, I'm perfectly find with a tie.
  20. During the attempt to not injure himself, Swift probably injured himself.
  21. Nope, but you seem to think that I think that the ending HAS to be climatic. It doesn't. I've already said that.
  22. Here's one of those weird trivia question: The Lions have had 29 different people leading them as HC in games (this include intern head coaches and Robert Prince, who was temporary HC for one game because of Covid quarantine from other coaches). Of those 29 coaches, what percentage would you guess had the last name Clark?
  23. We're starting to get down an argument of semantics. I didn't watch the game itself, but from what I've read it absolutely was entertaining, so I agree with you there. Something can be entertaining with an anti-climatic ending... which I guess is what I was trying to get at. Ties are anti-climatic by nature. Fans, generally, want one team or the other to win. But the 70 minutes between the start and the anti-climatic ending can be entertaining. So no need to device (imho) non-entertaining football to ensure that the rare anti-climatic ending doesn't happen.
  24. I don't love ties in the NFL, but I also don't want a bunch of "non-football rules" put in places to try and avoid them... like I don't want each team to start at the 20 and need to score and need to go for two points or whatever. So I get what you're saying here about not adding stupid rules. That said, I think a tie is very anti-climatic. Not one wants a tie, no one is rooting for a game to end in a tie. Ties just feel weird and unfulfilling. But that's okay. It's alright that it can have an unfulfilling feeling. They're rare enough that I don't think we need to jump through hoops to avoid them, and the NFL has a way to deal with it in the standings, so that's not a problem either. Ties are unfulfilling, and that's okay.
