Week Ten: Detroit Lions (7-1) @ Houston Texans (6-3)
RedRamage replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
It's kinda funny... because I wasn't even really angry that we were losing. I mean I wasn't happy and it wasn't that I thought we'd come back and win... It was just: "Meh... bad games happen." I heard this said about baseball but honestly it applies to all sports I think: It's the fans of the mediocre teams that are most invested in the wins and losses. Fans of a bad team assume losses will happen and if they win: "Well, that's nice, but that isn't like we're all of a sudden good." Fans of a good team assume a win, but if they lose: "Well, bad games happen. We'll get back on the winning side next game." It's just the people in the middle who feel the outcome of the game is defining if their team is good or bad because it matters each game. I'm not saying this to try to trash on those fans who are like that of middle of the road teams. Lord knows I've been that fan many, many times. No, the reason I'm saying this is that I 100% felts like a fan of a good team last night. I certainly wasn't happy that the Lions were getting their butt whopped, but I never thought: "There goes the season... our team sucks." It's amazing how far we've come in 4 years. -
Bears gave up 9 sacks and 13 Tackles for a Loss. 21 times the Patroits... the Patroits! ...were making tackles inside the Bears OL. I mean... holy crap thats bad. Prior to the Bears game the Pats had a total of 16 sacks... they averaged 1.78 sacks per game in the previous 9 games. This one game jumped their average to 2.5 sacks per game. Packers fans gotta be just pissed right now. All three other teams in the North had pretty crappy games. The Vikings didn't even manage a TD against the Jags, the Bears OL apparently thought this was their bye week, and the Lions were getting their butts handed to them in the first half. And yet somehow only the Bears lost.

Really SOLs would have been the Lions being the others side... dominate a team in the first half... 5 INTS, and still lose. -

Everyone was complaining that he was too close to the right upright, so... ya know... he corrected that. -

Well... time to see if this coaching staff can make second half adjustments. -

Yes but I believe he also played LT in the preseason too. -

I dunno if that's a good idea. Decker was out for the rest of the season then I'd put Sewell over there, but if he's only going to be out a game leave Sewell where he is, where he knows the plays at his position. -

We could put Iffy in a roll of pass-rushing linebacker?? -

They did go 16-0, and then lost in the SB. -
15 minutes left... I wonder if there's any "standing deals" out there where a team basically says: "Yeah, we're hoping to trade this player for higher than what you're offering, but if we don't get any better offers by 3:55, he's yours for the price you offered."
-
It's kinda a catch-22 situation though, isn't it? I mean if you fire the GM, then who handles the trades to ensure you get top value rather than just throwing away good options for little return? It's almost like teams should have an "interim" person on staff. Someone who's hired by the owner to just sit in on meetings and shadow the GM so he or she can step in if necessary but it's known that this person will never be hired as the full time GM.

He was a second round pick just about 1.5 years ago... if it works out it'll be seen as a genius move... get a 2nd round talent for a 4th round cost. I also don't really figure the Panthers as a powerhouse in terms of developing so it's possible that the Cowboys could find a way to motivate/use him that the Panthers just couldn't.

Still some time, but it I suspect nothing much more will happen. Still wished they added Arden Key, but I don't think he would have been a AMJOR impact guy, just a more experienced rotational piece vs. a lot of unproven, unknown guys. I supposed if we get Paschal back here soon that could sorta kinda be considered another addition as he's missed the last two games.

Texans' Reddit reaction to the trade:

I suspect it'll depend a LOT on how well he picks up the Lions terminology and scheme, but I agree with MB that he likely won't get starter-level snaps.

Yeah I think we've seen over the last few games that we haven't gotten a lot of pressure on the QB and we need to hArden that defensive line up. Our secondary isn't bad but give any receiver/QB all day to throw and they'll eventually get someone open. More pressure will be a Key moving forward.
-
Yep... I was forgetting that they had the extra 4th from a previous trade and that's the one they used for Vaki.
-
I see what you did there, and I'm in 100% agreement.

Reports where that the Browns wanted a good 3rd day pick for him, so you think 4th, maybe high 5th. Obviously the Lions do not have a 4th and their 5th is likely going to be pretty far down the round, so this looks like about what the Browns were hoping. They get a late 5th instead of an early 5th, but the move up from the 7th round to the 6th round the following year to compensate. So, I don't know that I'd call it highway robbery, but if that's really the deal I'm more than okay with it. Smith is still under contract for 2025, right?
