McKinstry gave Tork his glove back in the high five line.
That was a cool shot, wasn't it? I assumed he was borrowing one. I'm sure he has a few gloves at his disposal and wondered if he might also have a 1Bdude's mitt just in case.

My Cleveland sports fan father-in-law borrowed my hedge trimmer the other day. Should I text him to ask him if he needs to borrow a broom as well?

Zach wasn’t named as a reserve to the AL squad.
Clayton Kershaw was added to the all star game under the commissioner's legend status rule. MLB should do the same with Zach McWinstry.

I used tolove watching Tony Phillips (RIP) play. Versatility is an unmeasured factor
Detroit Phillips was awesome. I agree with you n the versatility. I doubt it happens, but I'd love to see McKinstry make the all star team and to see both he and Baez play at multiple defensive positions.

Portland - It seems like there is a BGH here and people have romanticized Portland as a baseball town, since baseball does have an appeal to more intellectual folks. But has minor league baseball ever thrived in Portland? Plus, the politics in Portland is a nightmare.
Someone isn't up on their current events. The legislature just passed a bill for $800 million in bonds for the stadium
That legislature move is interesting. I was under the impression that there wasn't much local public interest in an MLB team there. They have not had minor baseball there since 2010 unless you count summer collegiate baseball. Maybe they need to bring back the Portland Mavericks for a popularity kick?

Here's the game by game schedule.
https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/DET/2025-schedule-scores.shtml
Here is the Tigers' record in 10-game blocks. Of course there can be 10-game windows overlapping those blocks that are more extreme, but nothing really pops out. Losing 5 of 7 between June 14th-June 21st seems to be the weakest stretch.
Games 1-10: 6-4
Games 11-20: 6-4
Games 21-30: 6-4
Games 31-40: 8-2
Games 41-50: 7-3
Games 51-60: 6-4
Games 61-70: 6-4
Games 71-80: 5-5
Games 81-90: 5-4 with 1 game to play
Here is the Tigers' record by month:
March: 1-3
April: 18-9
May: 19-9
June: 15-11
July: 2-2
Division lead at month ends:
March 31: 1 game behind
April 30: 1.5 game lead
May 31: 6.0 game lead
June 30: 11.5 game lead
Other highlights include:
Largest divisional lead: 12.5 games (current)
Longest winning streak: 5 (3 times)
Longest losing streak: 3 (3 times)
Also, while no chance at "wire to wire" for the season starting March 27, the Tigers have been at least tied for 1st in the Central since April 1 and have held the Central lead outright since April 5 (Game 8).
There was one string of 10 games where the Tigers had a losiing record this season.
That's it, that's the low point of the season. 4-6.

This occasion is ripe for arrogance. Series in hand with Skubal on the mound. A chance to kick a city entirely out of baseball mode and into football mode despite the Clowns being the Clowns. An opportunity to break the numeric system by seeing if indeed there actually does exist a 1 decimal place number in between 99.9% and 100.0%. Or, perhaps, the opportunity for the Tigers to invent that number with a victory today.

Wenceel Perez seems to be lost in the shuffle of the Tigers improvements from last season to this season, but he has looked much better in the field.

they are playing 500 ball recently but running away from the other 3 team that are simultaneously cratering.
today is gravy with Skubal going Sunday.
I’ve been meaning to look back at rolling 10 to 20 game records for the Tigers this season. Just to see what the is to see. I would imagine I wouldn’t see many 10 game windows below .500 and no 20 game windows below .500.

I’ll believe the A’s are settled when they’re settled in a new ballpark.

Sweeney and Liranzo for Bednar. That was the cost for the Dodgers for 2 months for Jack. Both have elevated their profiles since, so can you get 2 months + 1 year of Bednar for that same duo?
I do like the idea of flipping the exact same package acquired last season in an exchange of buyer/seller roles. Well done!

I wonder how many teams will ultimately decide to sell? The Tigers showed last season that anything is possible, even with the most remote odds. I really don’t see the AL Central pulling the plug, save for the White Sox.
Anything might be possible, but I wouldn’t think teams would choose to try to emulate the Tigers’ second half.

I’ll be honest. The way this season is going, a loss doesn’t move me much. Last night sucked, but it happens, it just ain’t happened much to the Tigers this season.
The other thing is, they just have not been in much of a slump and are in complete control of the division. I’d probably live and die harder if they were in danger of the division lead.
If they lose today, there’s another game tomorrow. That’s kind of how I’ve looked at it this season.

when the TIgers lose I get mad and don't want to talk to any of you morans.
When they win I want to have a Backyard BBQ with sprinklers, jello, and such and such.
So what do you do the day after they’ve done both? Jello fighting with a silent post game platter of ribs?

Before last year we went about a decade where are only All Stars were the token team reps so getting 4 potential starters all of whom are worthy is certainly nice to see. Definitely makes me more interested to watch the game for a change.
Shout out multi time “all star” Gregory Soto.

First time I really paid attention to baseball closely. 10 years old and nothing was more important to me than the pre-game introductions. Hooked ever since.
There’s something magical about the pregame introductions of all stars on the baselines.

half of these trades are about accumulating salaries, or getting under an apron or a tier, or slotting a salary into someone else's exception. so who knows what monk brings? it could be his particular contract terms rather than his actual basketball skill.
unless you're a complete basketball salary junkie, its hard to know.
Could it be some sort of draft capital, either a pick or swap?
