  1. What I don’t understand about bringing Foley in for the 7th is that, I think anyway, he is the best reliever?  So, he’s being brought in to face 5-6-7 when the game is going to come around to 1-2-3-4 even if the relief is perfect though the 7th and 8th.  I don’t think your “closer” needs to be only used in the 9th.

I can more understand bringing him in there if the top of the lineup were due up in the 7th and 8th innings, and Foley was to get that string of hitters.  I would think bridging until then with Foley would have been what happened today.

Besides that, Olson was doing fine.  I think his only stressful inning was due to Ibanez’ error?  I know he was up against 90, but if it’s a relatively unstressful 90, let him pitch.  Have the bullpen ready, don’t let him face the tying run.

Hinch sticking with his 90-pitches or so game plan though...

I can't argue against it.  Its one of those gray area decisions.  There's the pitch threshold.  I can see with a day off tomorrow deploying whatever bullpen resources are available today, mixing and matching righty & lefty.

Just mow 'em down to end the game and I'm cool.

I think that's all he needs on this team to "break out".

I can overlook a lack of power in one guy if he's a high-OBP guy and does other things...

If he can prove a high-OBP in MLB that might be just enough.

And yes, the flexibility and a need to be better than adequate in the field with that flexibility is also needed as a part of that package...

So... we'll see. Maybe he'll have a lot of "grit" and be a "glue guy"?

I think there's a lot of value for a high OBP player if they have good baserunning skills (ie, not necessarily just speed) and good defensive versatility.  That's a very good asset to a MLB bench.  I don't know if Vilade is that player, but I guess we may find out.

They are two games above .500 and have a positive run differential. All despite multiple players not playing to their potential.

You'd think we were talking about the 2019 team with the way people talk about them.

This start has been enjoyable.  There's flaws, sure.  But, come on, let's stop and soak in a winning record this late in the season for once.

Cle had 8 LH hitters in the line-up. If there was ever a night when an Opener would have been in order. Give Holton the 1st pass through the line-up  - or the 1st two innings - whichever comes 1st, then go to Kenta. Might have been a different outcome for Maeda....or not. 🤷‍♂️

    Bad start.

I'm still confident that we will see the historical May-September Maeda going forward.  And I'll also add in that he's got a good postseason resume.
