They are two games above .500 and have a positive run differential. All despite multiple players not playing to their potential.
You'd think we were talking about the 2019 team with the way people talk about them.
This start has been enjoyable. There's flaws, sure. But, come on, let's stop and soak in a winning record this late in the season for once.

Has Cleveland conceded defeat yet, or do they want to play this one out still?

Cle had 8 LH hitters in the line-up. If there was ever a night when an Opener would have been in order. Give Holton the 1st pass through the line-up - or the 1st two innings - whichever comes 1st, then go to Kenta. Might have been a different outcome for Maeda....or not. 🤷♂️
Bad start.
I'm still confident that we will see the historical May-September Maeda going forward. And I'll also add in that he's got a good postseason resume.

Murray throws multiple items on the court while the game is being played and only gets a $100K fine.
$100K more than Beverly has been punished.

Baseball Reference has his career OBP versus lefties at .319 (prior to today) so, overall, slightly better...
But a career .793 OPS vs LHP heading into tonight.

No Canha, no Carpenter. 11 runs on the board. Go figure.

Bless You Boys on Meadows/Vilade
Good summary on the Meadows demotion.
Well, it seems the Tigers do have troubles with lefties. But, it seems they also have troubles with righties, too.
I suppose a lefty hitter down and righty hitter up creates a bit more lefty/righty balance on the roster in terms of numbers of hitters.

With the old regime, a guy who was ~26 might get the 'last chance' call because it was time to put up or move on. Vilade is still maybe year short of being there but in any case I don't have much sense yet on Harris' thinking about cutting bait on older AAA players.
Baddoo's line seems worthy enough of a call up in this instance, he's already on the 40, and I believe this is his last option year. We've seen him play, we know the general strengths and weaknesses. I guess what I don't understand is, if he isn't worthy of this call up in this situation, why has he remained in the organization? Maybe its more about the defensive versatility (ie, the infield if Vierling is needed in CF) than I think it should be, I don't know.

Who goes? The Ferguson kid?
I think they had a spot to use, so they don't have to kick anyone off.
Additionally, they could always move Gipson-Long from the 15 day IL to the 60 day IL.
I surprised they didn't call Baddoo back up. Already on the 40. Offensive line isn't as good as Vilade, but definitely isn't packing the BABIP filler punch either.
This might be moot once Urshela is back anyway.

Vilade plays all over the field as well. So that's kind of dandy.
Edit: Does this put McKinstry on notice?

Well, somedays 70 feels like 45, and others like 105!
Is all of this related to humidity or wind or something?

The relative lack of hard hit rate differentiates this year from last year, IMO.
Which is ironic given he hit the ball hard last season, but BABIP was unkind.

Is it possible Torkelson is just a slow starter? There's not much resume to work with, the above are his splits for last season. But this happens to some ballplayers, such as Maeda.

I think there's a lot of value for a high OBP player if they have good baserunning skills (ie, not necessarily just speed) and good defensive versatility. That's a very good asset to a MLB bench. I don't know if Vilade is that player, but I guess we may find out.
