If shorter means a decrease from 12 years to 10, yeah sure.  Does anyone actually think that Harris will be under any sort of job pressure in the foreseeable future?

Seems highly doubtful that Harris is in jeopardy.

I'm thinking the first game against Cleveland is going to show what kind of "fight" this team has in them and whether we should climb aboard the 3-3 Hope Train or consign ourselves to a 1-5 road trip expectations...

If they wake up and take the 1st game...

    sure, I'll climb aboard...

Actually a 6 game road trip might not happen.  Weather looks dicey Tuesday and Wednesday.  Imagine that, the Tigers might get rained out again.

It's almost like they have to make some off-season trades. Who would have ever guessed that? The leash for Harris is getting shorter and shorter.

Is it getting shorter?  How long of a leash did Avila have?

I read Abreu welcomed it and wanted it. That may be all BS though...I mean, what's he supposed to say?

I don't know.  Everybody is different.  He's on the downslope of his career.  Maybe he's really after a ring to close things out?  Maybe he's got the blend of pride and humility to admit he needs to work on things while not adversely affecting his already struggling team?

And of course, I have the cynical side to me that wonders if he refuses the assignment, does he also walk away from the contract?  Because, dollars and sense.

Hey, the former is certainly possible.  We know of the Kaline story where he refused a raise one offseason because he thought he didn't earn it.

What did Gage Workman fix all of a sudden?

Dropped his switch-hitting and saw Kerry Carpenter's hitting guru in the off-season? I thought I saw someone mention that...

    Two questions:

    A) Does that mean Workman gets onto the "prospect radar" all of a sudden? He's always struggled with hit tool... but had power and excellent defense... But is he nothing more than Kreidler 2.0?

    B) So I guess 3 questions: Can we replace Detroit's hitting coaches with Kerry Carpenter's hitting guru?

All in on B.  Or at the very least, some type of roving instructor within the organization.

  6. Not even an indefinite suspension for twice throwing a ball maliciously into the stands?  Sure, it doesn’t do a whole lot of anything right now that Beverly is in the off-season.  But at least that little bit would fool some NBA passersby into thinking something is being done.

My guess: if Tork doesn’t show a pulse in the next 4 games, he will be optioned before next weekend’s home stand

It’s getting to that point.  Obviously Meadows and Urshela factor into the team transactions as well.  And I wonder if Jose Abreu’s recent demotion might restrict any push back Torkelson might have on a demotion.  Maybe he wouldn’t push back to begin with, I don’t know.

    No one is hyperventilating Lee.

YOU'RE the one throwing out exaggerations:

You're the only one who seems to be upset that he has started out hot and therefore using hyperbole.

    Tork batted a .758 OPS in 2023 in 606 AB's...

That is a MUCH longer track record than Wenceel Perez so he should bat (checks: Lee's notes on sabermetrificating the optimizalled lineup): FOURTH!!!

Tork should bat FOURTH because he was their THIRD best hitter last year and has a LONGER TRACK RECORD than Wenceel Perez so he:

    MUST

    BAT

    FOURTH!!!

(it is so... written in stone...)

    Except for,

    IMO,

    The 6 RBI's on his 6 HR's.

And his ONE HR which actually had men on base.

I'm glad you want Greene to lead the league in solo HR's.

    That's AWESOME!!!

You might need to get that CAPS LOCK button recalibrated in Toledo.

Badoo had an 86 OPS+ last year. Replacing Meadows 30 OPS+ with something like that would help the offense. But the defense would definitely slip so the net result might be zero, in which case you probably don't make the swap.

But I think the rationale there would be a short term reset for long term benefit.  Is there something Meadows can get done in Toledo which would bump that 30+ up to around 80+ going forward upon his return?

Maybe there isn't.  While the Tigers seem to have the pitching side of the game figured out, the hitting is questionable.  Is it coaching/development or is it the players?  Keith might be a barometer of that for Harris given the contract that was signed.

Hiura also has a 6/1 upward mobility clause. Worth keeping in the ol' noggin as the month progresses.

Is that a standard practice?  It came across to me like it was a unique clause, but I don't know.

    It's fair...

I so think that if Tork goes down, Malloy ought to be the one coming up. Huira is the popular choice because he's a primary first baseman, but we need to see what Malloy has and, ****ty of a situation as it is, it presents an opportunity for him IMO

I have the feeling Malloy won't be called up. but I'd be fine with it.  I'm not sure any non40 would be called up right now, but that's just how I think the Tigers would operate right now.  I think they'd rather pull up Baddoo and use Canha at 1B.

    Greene LF

    Canha 1B

    Perez CF

    Carpenter RF

    Malloy DH

    Vierling 3B

    Keith/Ibanez 2B

    Baez SS

    Catcher

Vierling can back up CF with Urshela backfilling him.  Torkelson and Carpenter down to Toledo.  I'm not sure how long Perez can keep things up, but there's not much choice but to ride whatever hot bats they have right now.

Tork discussion aside, the catchers are awful at the plate. Also McKinsty should be on dfa watch IMO.

Kind of goes to show how well the pitching has performed in order to keep this team up in the playoff contention part of the standings.

MLB has allowed poorly called balls and strikes to become a part of the game.   It happens multiple times in almost every game.

Human element.  Some people like it.  Until they don't.

    cade is better than mobley.

But could Mobley plus something be better than Cunningham?

    Edit:  Probably not with Weaver.
