Harris didn't think he was worth $7 million. Period. I don't see what the big mystery is. And a week ago, on May 14, this conversation would not exist.
He had a nice week, good for him. A week ago he was having a really lousy year. If Harris doesn't think he's worth 7 million that's good enough for me.
If I were a hitter in a slump, and I saw that we were playing the Tigers next, and the starters would be Boyd, Faedo and Wentz...I would be wearing a little smile.
Here's a list of teams that have a worse W/L record than the Tigers: Cleveland, White Sox, KC, Oakland, Philadelphia, Washington, Cubs, Cincinnati, St. Louis, San Francisco, San Diego, Colorado.
I agree, having Cabrera means playing a man short. I don't gripe about it because Mike Ilitch can't hear me, he's dead. So we will get through it, Cabrera will start against lefthanders.
If Carpenter can come back, and Schoop gets cut to accommodate him, that would make a big difference. Among other things it would prevent us from fielding those oh-so-clever lineups with 9 righthanded batters.
It is strange to think that success could hinge on the performance of Maton and Vierling but tonight's game demonstrated what a difference it would make if those 2 guys performed the way Harris envisioned things. Not every night, just 400 PA's each.
