I stumbled across this a couple years ago. Good documentary, interesting cast of characters.
The google machine found this..

Looks like it could be a smart move, at least in principle
My wife spent most of last week in Detroit (wonderful timing with the weather). She had a late flight out Saturday. I guess something was happening on 275 Saturday afternoon and she had a ton of time so she opted to take Merriman to the airport.
She says her rental car probably needs a realignment after that adventure.
BTW, I'm just starting to read the new book on Watergate by Garrett Graff. My wife says its good.
Graff goes a bit on the notion that part of Felt's motivation for being Deep Throat was that he was unhappy that he wasn't chosen to succeed Hoover at the FBI
I've been diagnosed with ILD (Interstitial Lung Disease). We suspect I've had it for a while. They've prescribed Cofev. Medicare doesn't pay until I meet the deductible. Then it pays something like 75% Since it's considered experimental, out of pocket is still fairly steep.
I worked for Metro Traffic for several years. When they came into the markets they would make agreements with stations where they would take over payment for certain employees who would still broadcast on stations. The stations would turn over a certain number of minutes of commercial time to sell to clients. Since you still represented the station you were on you were still loyal to the station.
The broadcast teams work similarly. They're probably effectively paid by the station but work for the team.
A bit of disclosure, when we first came to Detroit my wife's position included supervision of the Tigers and Wings (and Lions) broadcasts. It was primarily the go between between the station and the teams. She did that as well with the Bears the last couple of years we were in Chicago.
(She hates sports)
the Tigers flagship station is WXYT. Dickerson is employed by the Tigers Radio Network. I think you would say Dickerson is a Tigers employee. WXYT pays the Tigers for the rights to broadcast the games.
