    PS:

Also... that's obviously one of the things where Holmes was so excited to draft him as a RB....

I think he will be a MAJOR special teams guy this year...

And will only see a few scraps here and there as an actual RB. Maybe a few more snaps at WR.

I think in year two or three... just guessing... he'll be all over the place: Special teams, RB, WR, Safety...

... they believe he at least has the personal integrity that McCarthy lacked - so they can negotiate with him and have some confidence in his word. Given that the Freedom Caucus will not support a true moderate and ... there is little chance of getting anyone better.

I think this is the crux of the matter, right here.

Sure, a WR coming to town would be a #3 WR. But don't discount the possibility of injuries. As well as asking Jaymo to step up and be a #2 receiver. This team has Super Bown aspirations so we need to have as much offensive power as we can. And...I hear we may have a very tough schedule.

    That...

And game plans change week-to-week based on matchups... and even in-game as well.

I would rather not go into the season with "Khalif Raymond is our #3 receiver? AWESOME!"

And would rather go into the season with "Tyler Boyd is our #3 receiver? (or DJ Chark) I feel MUCH better now. Thank you very much."

No easy task. A team trying to build for consistent quality will always be at a disadvantage to teams willing to mortgage their futures for a short run. The CBAs and salary cap systems try to force any budding dynasties to be short. He's going to have to be a lot smarter than the average GM  - and maybe he is.

I think the NFL formula for sustainability at a very high level is a great GM who can identify NFL talent in later rounds.

That's the pipeline to move a backup into a starter position without losing talent level and... not succumbing to Salary Cap Hell.

Also, depth players on a high level team are critical so, even if a later round guy never becomes a starter and is nothing more than a depth guy... that ALSO plays a role in the above...

This is the most encouraging thing I see in Holmes, and why he was hired: The ability to identify NFL talent in any round. Whether that's a depth guy, special teamer, or sneaky future starter...

We'll see how good he is at this, or not, over the longer term 4-5-6+ years...

He thinks the act of being sentenced to jail is political gold for him, plus he assumes it will never even really happen, which would be the best of all worlds for him.

I think he expects a "popular uprising" by his supporters upon the theatrics of his "pretend" tough guy incarceration.

That would lead to an insurrection demanding he become King again, errr, President that is...

Whereby he could ride on the shoulders of his white trash fascist troops, errr, freedom fighters... to his throne.

The problem is Boyd is a slot receiver despite having the build of an outside receiver....

I don't think that's a problem for Ben Johnson to find ways to move him around, inside or outside, and get him open...

And he's an easy enough target that I'm pretty certain Goff could find him without any issues...

    Boyd's career catch % is 68.1%

I'm going to guess that the Lions could find a way to work with that.

... I think Tyler Boyd either wants too much or too long...

I thought I saw where he was asking for $9 mill per...

I don't think that's too much on an annual basis...

But I didn't see what kind of term he was looking for. 2 or 3 years I could say yes, more than that might be too much to commit to...

We'll see when it gets closer to Training Camp if that changes...

If it ends up a 1-year I think that's a bargain. It'd be a "culture fit" 1-year, IMO, and if he fits into our "Lions Locker room culture" and Ben Johnson/ Jared Goff have him on the right page on the field... I'd be happy to go back to that 2 or 3 years deal...

Whatever you do, never, ever admit to your own foibles.  Always be defensive.  Play it just like your avatar would.  Right down to the CAPITALIZED letters.

    I am INFAMOUSLY defensive.

    I resemble that remark.

But NOT the avatar... sorry... but... no. Just, no.
