I have been more than a little emotional these last few nights seeing the spirit in the Ukrainians. It reminds me of watching The Battle of Britain with my son when he was very small and explaining to him that his English relatives were fighting for the very existence of Democracy. Imagine you were given this decision in your life. Stay and fight monstrous evil for your country. And evil is happening to them. This won't end without unimaginable suffering. My son is now 18 and intently interested in what is happening. As a parent this is really challenging. I can tell him how I know the US and NATO air forces would clean every clock in Russia if they created a no-fly zone but then we would risk nuclear war.

Per my friend who was a nuclear officer on a US Navy fast attack sub, he says the plant is not an RBMK reactor (like Chernobyl) but is closer to Fukishima. He says that kind of plant has but one weak point. So, I ask him "is the weak point that Russia is ruled by an asshole?" He responds: "So, two weak points. Because that reactor type needs active cooling when its shut down hence diesel generators." That's all greek to me as a non-expert. But you get the main point that its not a crazy precipice of danger. Its the kind of danger that could grow if Putin decides to not call off his forces and they attack the cooling tower or something.

Noticing on my bigger screen at home that these dudes have tactical comms like US armed forces have. They appear to have the sort of knee protection you need for urban combat.
