  1. The full original broadcast is on YouTube and I think I will watch some of it tonight. One of my early baseball memories. Remember that winter ordering with my parents' help the black and white 20 minute silent highlight film of the '75 Series which we played on a projector in our basement.
  2. Interesting to hear manager Schneider say he was expecting Speier to be brought in so when he found out it instead was Bazardo vs. Springer he really liked that matchup
  3. I've heard many Catholic homilies on Matthew 6:1 "Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven" and Matthew 6:3 "But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing". Not just for public prayer but also for charitable works. You can mention it if meant to spur others to follow that example, but not as boosting yourself up like carrying a business card that says Philanthropist, lol.
  4. The Jays won their 2nd World Series in October 1993. No Canadian-based team has won a Stanley Cup since then but here are the Jays back to compete for another championship.
  5. 5-2 at the bye is about as good as could be expected at the start of the year, as there looked to be 5 tough games - at Packers, at Ravens, at Bengals, at Chiefs, Bucs. Turned out to be 4 tough opponents (I still count Baltimore but not the Bengals) and the Lions split those and won the other three. Fine. Plus the 10-game schedule going forward has some tough games in it but doesn’t look as overly brutal as the 17 games did as a whole going in. I will be very confident going into every game except at Philly and at Rams and even those two are by no means write offs.
  6. I agree, but in that case just take a knee. There is a reluctance on teams’ parts to kneel unless it runs the clock down to zero. But a little plunge up the middle is conceding you’re not even trying for a first down but still has a small fumble, penalty or injury risk. The last Montgomery run with under a minute had players clutching, grabbing and twisting for about 3 seconds. Completely unnecessary, no good was going to come out of that, you’re simply hoping for nothing bad to happen.
  7. Agony for lifelong Mariners fan Mina Kimes in Detroit to work MNF when her Mariners were in a Game 7. She said earlier today she “couldn’t feel her face” due to the stress. Springer’s homer was about 5 minutes after the Lions game ended.
  8. Springer got dinged with a HBP in Game 5 that knocked him out of the game and Jays fans were ticked that some Mariners fans seemed to have cheered that. So he gets revenge with today’s Springer Dinger.
  9. Heartbreak for the Mariners. Not that you can expect Julio to lay off a full count slider with 2 outs, but if he had taken it would have been a walk with Raleigh coming to the plate. That would have been something.
  10. Just take a knee twice. Don’t even risk a fumble. Give the ball back with 30 seconds to go.
  11. Yeah, why turn a 4th and 2 into a 4th and 15.
  12. I swear after the latest Lions’ 1st down I said this reminds me of how easily the Lions were moving against the Commanders early. And two plays later …another reminder.
  13. Hmm, this jersey choice would hardly inspire confidence for Toronto sports fans before a Game 7
  14. I’m still getting used to the broadcast crews calling the Wings’ young players by their full names instead of the initials we’ve grown accustomed to referring to them as, lol
  15. I remember when Ernie was fired in 1991 and my grandfather, who was 77 at the time, said he understood the decision. He figured management’s view was that a legend like Ernie wouldn’t necessarily have the same nostalgic appeal to teens and that replacing him and Carey with Rizzs and Rathbun was aimed at a modern audience. Rizzs and Rathbun were both in their late 30s at the time. By the way, as some probably know, Rizzs is still active as the Mariners’ radio play by play man.
  16. Just before the empty netter, how did Draisaitl get so open and then how did he overskate it, lol.
  17. Impressive win. Oilers had only 18 shots on net. 2 goals and 4 points for Larkin. 2 goals for Finnie.
  18. 11 minutes without a whistle since the Edmonton goal with 12:27 to go ends in a Wings ENG with 1:22 to go. That should do it.
  19. Edmonton made it 3-2 with 12:27 to go. Hasn’t been a whistle since and there is now just 3:30 to play.
  20. Now Larkin too throws one at the net and it too sneaks in. 3-1 late in the 2nd.
  21. Oilers get it right back on a seeing eye shot thrown from the point.
  22. Emmitt Finnie is an NHL goal-scorer!
  23. Larkin opens the scoring and then the Wings kill off a penalty immediately afterwards.
  24. Scoreless against Edmonton after 1. Wings limited the Oilers to 3 shots on goal. Not a lot of offense for the Wings but did have a few odd man breaks.
