  1. Busy night tonight. You'd have to expect that by the end of the evening the Bolts (maybe the Flyers) will have moved ahead of the Wings and NYI will have moved within 2 pts of the Wings. The Islanders game starts at 10:30pm, all the rest are 7pm. - Philadelphia at Florida - St. Louis at New Jersey - Washington at Pittsburgh - Calgary at Tampa - NYI at San Jose
  2. 7-2 final. That's 3 losses in a row now, including back to back thumpings.
  3. A puck squirts past Lyon with 33 seconds to go to make it 5-2. Bedtime for fans in the Eastern time zone.
  4. Huge save on Fabbri prevents the Wings taking a lead into the intermission.
  5. When I went to the Lions @ Niners, I chatted to Lions fans living in 12 states (Oregon, Florida, Utah, Illinois, Texas, Colorado, Washington to name an few) and 3 provinces. More, because that’s just people who identified where they’re from as we talked. On my Sunday morning Vancouver-SF flight day of the game, more than 10 people on a plane of 130 people were wearing Lions gear.
  6. Looks like a dads’ trip possibly. Or else some kind of organized tour.
  7. Took a few whacks, but the Wings lead on a Perron goal.
  8. Avs skating circles around the Wings. Lucky to be tied 1-1 with 7 minutes left in the 1st.
  9. What are we waiting for? Start the game!
  10. Darn, I would have been happy getting Hanifin.
  11. I was very high on Byram coming out of junior, maybe I bought into the hype coming from him being a Vancouver Giant. If he can avoid concussions and injuries - like you said a big if - I think there is still quite a bit of upside potential. Good move by the Avs, but to me doesn’t necessarily mean the Sabres got fleeced like some are saying.
  12. What’s wrong with Tarasenko’s 41 points (17 goals) in 57 games.
  13. It's a bit frustrating that they had a chance to all but put away the Isles last week at the LCA when they were 10 points up. That late tie-breaking goal by NYI was a big swing. New Jersey (Florida), Pittsburgh (Columbus) and NYI (St. Louis) all play at home tonight.
  14. Standings as of this morning. As it shows in the next to last column, no one at or behind the Wings has more than 12 points in their past 10 games. If teams continue to do that the rest of the way, the Wings are in good shape and averaging a point per game the rest of the way will be enough. Can't count on that though, I expect at least one of NYI, NJD, Wash or Pitt to make a run. I don't know who, but I still think NJ worries me the most.
  15. OT win tonight by St. Louis over the Flyers. OK, I'll take it.
  16. This was what I was afraid of. Devils could get a bump now. https://www.nhl.com/news/lindy-ruff-fired-by-new-jersey-devils Lindy Ruff was fired as coach of the New Jersey Devils on Monday. Associate coach Travis Green was named as his replacement. He will debut when the Devils host the Florida Panthers on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; BSFL, MSG). The Devils (30-27-4) are eight points behind the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning, who are tied for the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. New Jersey has a .484 points percentage (14-15-2) at home, which is 26th in the NHL.
  17. Go Blues! At Philly tonight, at NYI tomorrow.
  18. Kane was already with the Wings for the first Larkin injury, although Kompher and Perron were out.
  19. I'd say the Wings' playoff chances at the 3/4 mark are roughly where the Lions' division title chances were at the 3/4 mark (just before the Denver game). Remember people were worried that the Lions could lose both games to the Vikings or the Packers could run the table? Sure, that was possible, so is the Wings missing. And I get people being worried when the playoffs haven't happened in years. But 60 games in, we have a good idea of what these teams are. The Wings are virtually safe. True, no one is ready to "book it" though.
  20. Despite Mantha's 20th goal of the season, Caps drop a 5-2 game to Arizona, at home. Big loss for them. No one in the East has played themselves back into or close to a playoff spot recently. Devils are 5-5 in past 10, Pittsburgh 4-5-1, Islanders and Washington not bad at 5-3-2 but that can hardly be deemed a hot streak. Higher up near the Wings, Tampa and Philly have both gone 5-4-1.
  21. Yeah, the Coyotes hanging on to their surprise 4-2 lead midway through the 3rd today would be a nice bonus. Buffalo has moved up to the fringes of the playoff race. 10 pts behind the Wings, same number of games played. Recent wins over Tampa and Vegas. May as well cheer for them to lose today in Winnipeg. But if the Sabres ever become a factor in the race, that would mean the Wings have far bigger problems.
