  1. Has this been posted already? Lions won’t be in the opener vs Philly.
  2. In other sports news today. Florida Panthers 2 Toronto Maple Leafs 0.
  3. Going into the weekend, I was becoming resigned to the fact the Leafs would win the Cup. I was going to savour the last few weeks of the Leafs being lifetime losers before everything changed. Kind of how I felt last summer knowing our daughter would be leaving for college in the fall. Now? Game on.
  4. Teams don't get shut out on Mother's Day unless they hate their moms.
  5. A pic of Mom Jung's two young 'uns together on Mother's Day.
  6. That's exactly what Benedetti called him just now.
  7. I got a kick in a nerdy way how yesterday Leo spoke about the importance and challenges of Artificial Intelligence. And how part of the reason he chose the name Leo was because Leo XIII had written an encyclical about the Industrial Revolution and that we may be on the verge of an AI revolution. My capstone paper which I finished just 3 weeks ago was on “The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Banking & Accounting from a Catholic Social Teaching Perspective” and it included several pages on Leo XIII’s Rerum Novarum about human dignity and the meaning of work. I should send my paper to him, perhaps there is room for a Tigers fan on the fringes of the Vatican.
  8. Skinner was a clown on this but losing but some of the worst team defense you will ever see. Bringing it into the zone 1 on 4 with 7 seconds to go shouldn’t be dangerous for you.
  9. Brutal reviews for the new album, Pink Elephant. This is a band that could do no wrong between 2004 (Funeral) and 2013 (Reflektor).
  10. Guardians and Royals both win. They’re getting on my nerves.
  11. The 1993 team that finished 85-77 had the best record in the American League in June 15. Two NL teams were ahead of them though.
  12. Is the 3.0 game division lead the Tigers now have over the Guardians and the Royals the largest the Tigers have had this season? Update: I’ve checked Baseball Reference. It is. They had got it up to 2.5 games a few times
  13. Dan's call of the final out. may 9 - tigers beat rangers.mp3
  14. For sure. It's a problem that's not getting better. I drifted from the Church for a good 15 years because Mass wasn't doing anything for me (well that plus a family friend, a Vatican-based monsignor, was convicted of heinous child sex abuse). Of course I know the heart of the Catholic Mass is the Eucharist. But really, the only three things to look forward to when I was a kid and still as an adult were: a) music; b) homily; and c) food/social afterwards. For the homily, many priests put a lot of time into every week but lack public speaking skills. Simple Toastmaster things like telling the congregation at the beginning the 4 points he's going to make and how long it's going to take, so we can pace ourselves, rather than have him just drone on and on. Maybe a bullet point outline could be put in the bulletin or up on the screens that are sometimes used now. This has become an even more pressing issue as accents of foreign priests may be hard to understand and they tend to have longer sermons. 7-10 minutes should be plenty. Foreign priests often were trained in regions where "clericalism" still is too strong and the priest calls the shots with little input from the people in the pews. I know many long-time Catholics who get more out of online podcasts by "popular" priests like Bishop Robert Barron or Father Mike Schmitz than they do from anything they've heard in their own church. Incidentally, I've been married to a non-religious wife for 33 years and I didn't come back to Catholicism until my father's funeral 12 years ago. It was the rituals that first drew me back - the faith would eventually follow and then later my interest in theology.
  15. Strikeout on the next batter and Dan D still hasn't let me know whether there are runners on 1st and 2nd or runners on 1st and 3rd after the play at the plate.
  16. Look up, look waaaaaay up.
  17. The 2025 Tigers and 2006 Tigers were both 25-13 after 38 games. The 1968 Tigers were 24-14. The 1984 Tigers were 33-5. The 2003 Tigers were 9-29.
  18. Coincidentally, I’m graduating Saturday with my M.A. in Theological Studies from a Catholic college (Jesuit-oriented) at the University of British Columbia. My quick reaction. Most North American cradle Catholics will like this pick, many North American convert Catholics might not. Despite what you might see on social media, convert Catholics are a minority within the Church but are zealous and outspoken. Increasing in importance. Younger priests, like the pastor of my parish, also tend to be more conversativr, hence the re-introduction of things like a communion rail in some parishes. Going into the conclave, I saw him as one of the best candidates but thought his being American would rule him out. Fact he is so international though, even being a naturalized Peruvian after 20 years there, and is fluent in Italian and Spanish, made him acceptable. Choosing Leo as his name is the biggest indicator of his values, IMO. The most recent Pope Leo was in the late 1800s and was the father of modern Catholic Social Teaching. Overall, I like this pick.
  19. Chet was always one of my favourites. That Game 3 is the only World Series game I have attended in person. The game was a blowout and a walk-fest and that was the one memorable moment.
  20. Habemus papam!
  21. Extra inning victories that inspire me to drink and to go streaking up and down my street could be considered immoralizing wins.
  22. This could be the Leafs' year. Gulp.
  23. Grizzlies is a touchy subject for me, sorry.
  24. Sounded like a home crowd for the Tigers on the radio in the 10th inning, including on the final out.
