2024 DETROIT TIGERS REGULAR SEASON THREAD
Motor City Sonics replied to chasfh's topic in Detroit Tigers
30-41 since the 5-0 start. Wow, that's pathetic. Only the Angels, A's and White Sox are worse in the AL this year. Only the Rockies and Marlins (who shut us out at home twice) are worse in the NL. A.J. Hinch should not have his job anymore. Spare me the whole "but he doesn't have the players". I see players regressing under his leadership. He tinkers too much and seems to be latched on to some players that have no business being here. They don't seem to be too fired up playing for this guy either. Watching several teams go from good, to awful and rebound again in the the time that this team spins it's wheels in the muck is infuriating. Still can't be too harsh on Scott Harris.....yet, but this offseason means a lot and I think we will be every bit as underwhelmed as last year's. With his team in need of immediate help he drafted a high school kid with his first #1 pick, which means he doesn't believe they are anywhere close to contending. I don't care. Try, dammit. Try to show this fan base SOMETHING. Harris & Co knew they had one of the worst starting players in Javy Baez and that they had no other REAL shortstop that was even close to being MLB ready, other than Ryan Kreidler, who is hurt all the time and, well, sucks. They made no contingency plan in case Baez either got hurt or played horribly this year. Wouldn't you know, both happened. This just ****ing sucks, man. The Royals have leapt ahead of us now and the Guardians are having a great season without their ace. I understand that most teams would have taken Mize and Tork at #1 overall, but what the hell does our organization do to these guys? Hinch & Co have Torkelson's brain twisted into knots. He too full of data to just play ball. I think they're doing that to a bunch of players, actually. And let's face facts, as much as we love Riley Greene, he's really only a slightly above average MLB player. If he had a better lineup around him, he might be good, but he has to carry this team and he doesn't have the experience or the chops to do it. This team could have done better than Mark Canha this offseason. We only signed Flaherty to trade him in a month, and even with his All Start caliber-season, we'll end up getting someone's 10th or 12th best prospect, who probably can't play shortstop, just like anyone else close to this major league roster. This was the week I stopped watching. Pre All Star Game. If they aren't going to make any effort, why should I? -
And what the hell does this team owe McKinstry and Wentz anyway? Get rid of these guys. They're just giving up and as much as it's about Eval this year, that is setting the wrong tone for these young players.

I don't expect us to go undefeated vs. the White Sux, but if we lose another game like the last, what, 4 games, offensively, shouldn't it be someone's ass? Hitting coach, something? Again, my plea, all season, has been go find a shortstop that can just come in an play for a short time and be decent (meaning hit .220 and don't be a butcher in the field). I heard some folks here say "They've got Kreidler" and I recoiled at that because he couldn't stay healthy, but he is awful. Just awful. They can't try to find a cast off who is better than McKinstry/Kreidler? I know, I know, evaluation year, but come on already.

2 for 23. Can't hit a AAA fastball and AAA is a garbage dump for pitchers. Dude is done.
-
Both teams are following the script. sports is fixed.

8-1 voting that domestic abusers shouldn't have guns. I don't even have to look up who the 1 is. He has no business on the bench. He just does everything for political reasons and he hates black people too. Keep scrubbin' Clarence, it don't come off.

Yep. And all U.S. Military jobs.........Buh-Bye !

I thought they were only going to wear The Horror for 3 or 4 games. Is this going to be every weekend now? I want my perfect Tiger home kits back !

Sutherland won an Emmy for Citizen X. I can get past the accent issues. I loved this movie. I like how in Chernoby and The Death Of Stalin, they just let the actors speak in their natural accents and didn't worry about trying to sound Russian.

But you have to because luck is going to run out at some point and Jared Goff will miss a game or two (hopefully no more). We have no idea how good Hendon is. It's about game management and not raw talent, so I think his ability to read defenses and his timing are more important than anything. I think Hooker is the backup but it never hurts to have another possible option incase of an injury or he just looks overmatched. We'll get a little bit of an idea in preseason how he is with timing. They took him for a reason. I trust in Brad.

This scene, this right here. I put it up there with the brilliance of conveying emotion without having to raise a voice or get animated. It's so subtle, but powerful. Right up there with Paul Newman's summation scene in The Verdict. Great actors who use their face and voice so perfectly.

Didn't matter what he was in or who he was playing. A pot-smoking college prof, a smart ass Army surgeon, a scientist trying to stop an alien invasion or an evil President overseeing kids killing each other as a game show - Donald Sutherland was a brilliant actor. Most actors are short, so it's harder for tall actors to get parts, but some break through because they are just great actors (James Cromwell comes to mind). And he had a great speaking voice too. But his best part was one of the most subtly brilliant performances in film history - as a heartbroken husband desperately trying to get his wife to acknowledge the death of a son and the pain of another in Ordinary People. He didn't even get an Oscar nomination for it. Probably because he was very political. One of the biggest snubs in Oscar history. A fine Canadian. R.I.P. Donald Sutherland. 88+ years is a good run

Boeing is going to hire this guy as their next lawyer
-
What's it gonna take to end Boeing? How many dangerous mistakes are going to be allowed? How is this allowed to keep happening?
-
This is awesome.
-
Maybe he can borrow some money from Tom Gores.

And this with Ray Oyler going 0 for August AND September in 1968. Enough with Kreidler. He had his one good game. He's done. There has to be an available shortstop out there that is better than Kreidler & McKinstry. It's not statisically possible there isn't. You'd be asking someone to be a .215 hitter............that's it. But this is Hinch's guy, right. Gotta stick with his guy. Please explain why Hinch is seemingly so untouchable. I know the groceries aren't great, but he's not even making prison-level chow with them.
-
I know the Braves vs. the Tigers is like University of Michigan football vs. Purdue, but wow......just wow.
-
Akil Baddoo is not a major league player. Enough already. Try something else. Try anything else. Just stop with him. This idea that Kreidler could be the SS if we got rid of Baez is laughable. He's not good (and this is his longest healthy stretch in a few years, waiting for the injury any minute now). I don't care if Zack McKinstry hits lefthanded because he can't hit anyway, so why does it matter which side of the plate he stands on. This OBP Machine Malloy needs a repairman. The bottom half of this lineup is bollocks. Can we please try something else............ANYTHING ELSE? PLEASE? The folks that coach hitting on this team. Why are their jobs so safe?

How much do Republicans hate the fact that Juneteenth is a national holiday.

There is a new Whistleblower against Boeing. Gee, hope they don't have an "accident" or commit "suicide".
