Perhaps they (correctly) assumed that officials would be looking for them at the border. I don't know where they were going, but they were checkin' out, leaving the kid on his own, which was nothing new for them.

From what I understand, they left that kid alone for days. They'd leave him money and he would be on his own at 12/13/14 years old. He'd ask neighbors to drive him to the store. Sherrone Moore has to take over a team who just won a title. Something he probably can't repeat (at least in year 1). There is very likely some sort of punishment coming to the program. If they can't get Harbaugh, they'll get someone. JJ, Blake Corum, Several guys on the O-Line and Roman Wilson are all gone and there's a pretty good chance that Jim Harbaugh takes Jesse Minter with him. He'll have his work cut out for him at the start.
