He's in the best shape in years......................And I hear Bonderman's change up is fantastic this Spring. And man, Mike Laga was hitting some rockets in batting practice. Did you hear the news about the guys that got stuck out on an ice flow in Lake Erie and had to be rescued at tax payers' expense? I just saw a story about a senior class that got stranded at the airport because their travel agent gave them phony vouchers for Spring Break and ran off with their money. Also, that Bridal shop in (insert city here) suddenly closed and several brides who made expensive deposits won't have their dresses in time for their wedding. And my friend Scott is bitching about how tired he is and how stupid Daylight Savings time is (TAKE A NAP, DAMMIT). SPRING IS HERE, BABY ! (What, you usin' my 'babies' now?)

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?

I remember the story with some young athlete getting to meet him and it was a major thrill, an inspiration for this kid to become a pro athlete and he wound up playing for a short time in the NFL, but that young man died and Carew wound up getting his heart and kidneys. Amazing story.- 1,851 replies

Yeah, but we got great years before that happened. I'll take those great years again and worry about the risk later. This town needs something sports-wise to be happy about.

Why are we so worried about risk all of a sudden? It ain't our money. Remember when the Tigers were really good 10 years ago..............there was a lot of risk on that payroll. Kenny Rogers was a risk because of his age. Magglio was a risk because of injury history. Miguel was a risk because he's an alcoholic. Come on, man. Take the shot.

Motor City Sonics replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
The playoff format should be to have a committee of people who have something to do with baseball and maybe a former Secretary of State decide who the best 4 teams are and then just go with that. What's Madeleine Albright up to?- 1,851 replies

Probably because of the emotional attachment related to her husband.

If you designed the contract so it pays him a ton in 24, 25 and 26 How about this 1 -Age 27 2022 27,000,000 2 -Age 28 2023 30,000,000 3 -Age 29 2024 35,000,000 - Miggy's contract off the books now and the young players won't be FA yet. 4 -Age 30 2025 40,000,000 5 - Age 31 2026 40,000,000 6 - Age 32 2027 38,000,000 - You'll have to start paying any younger pitchers that worked out 7 - Age 33 2028 34,000,000 - 8 - Age 34 2029 32,000,000 - Guys like Tork & Greene will start getting paid (if they work out) 9 - Age 35 2030 30,000,000 - 10 Age 36 2031 27,000,000 10 years, 333 million. Not a finished product for sure, but there were a few times when he looked really good last year. They had to bring him up before he was ready because of injuries. I think he will take a big, good step this year. He was right up there with Mize a few years ago, Missing a full year and then being called up to early threw everything off. I see Manning in 2021 much like Mize and Skubal were in 2020, just let him learn.
-
Are you about to lose control and do you think you like it?
-
Really? Who is your 5? I think you need at least 8 starters going into the season. He could be a bullpen/depth guy even if he is not in the Opening Day rotation. I do expect a couple of our young guys to have injuries at some point. Even with a full Spring Training I would expect that. I like Tyler Alexander in the same role they've used him the last two years. 1. Mize 2. Rodriguez 3. Skubal 4. Manning Other than that, the options seem to be Tyler Alexander, Rony Garcia, Reese Olson, Joey Wentz. That's a lot of uncertainty. They still need 2 guys. One of them could be Peralta.

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
Motor City Sonics replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
With four divisions you could have a set up where the 2nd and 3rd place teams play each other for the right to face the #1 team in the division. Maybe even make all 3 games at the 2nd place team's park to give them an advantage. Sure, you'll have some year's where the 4th place team in the West has a better record than the 3rd place team in the East, but Dems Da Breaks !- 1,851 replies

Well the Dodgers went further than the Giants. Plus there is the argument that having a bye might not be a good thing. We always felt it hurt the 2006 Tigers to be idle so long before the World Series.- 1,851 replies

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
Motor City Sonics replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
Maybe setting things up to go back to 4 divisions. If they aren't going to emphasize divisional rivalries as much, then why not. I think you can have 8 teams in one and 7 in the other and be just fine. There is the idea of expanding, but I can't see any kind of expansion right now until Oakland and Tampa Bay resolve their issues. I think the A's are headed to Las Vegas (Portland won't support a major league team, plus that city is a total political mess). The weaker Canadian dollar hurts the chance of Montreal getting a team. So other than Vegas what do you have? Nashville, which I think would be a great spot for a team and then it gets pretty thin after that. The Cardinals and Reds are not going to allow a team in Indianapolis. Ditto with the Yankees, Mets and Phillies allowing a team in New Jersey. I don't know how viable Charlotte is and as much as I think Austin, Texas could support a team, the Rangers and Astros will stop it. I think it's more likely the A's move to Vegas and the Rays move to Nashville than both of those teams staying where they are.- 1,851 replies

yeah, but now we have this limit of call up/send downs that makes that really tricky too. they have to expand the rosters. they are asking for trouble. spring training is going to be three weeks? how many exhibition games, 10?- 1,851 replies

I think teams should be allowed to carry 28 players and 15 pitchers in the first month. I know guys work out year-round now, but I am really really worried about pitchers, especially young pitchers, like ours.- 1,851 replies

What is the roster breakdown going to be at the start.............11 players, 15 pitchers? 12/14. There's no way pitchers are going to throw more than 60 pitches in the first month or so..........- 1,851 replies
