I think Juwan is very lucky to still have his job. This was not his first meltdown. And I don't think the timeout had anything to do with it, I think a bad season had everything to do with it he better learn how to deal with that quickly because every team is going to have some bad years. Next time they play Wisconsin I am sure Juwan and Gard are going to be all hugs. I don't think they hate each other. I think some attention needs to be turned to Warde Manuel because things are not healthy in that department and they need more than a Harbaugh buddy to do that job.

Reggie Thomas. He stole 70+ bases in 66 games in 1973. Wow.

Yes. And I think Marc Crawford made a couple of comments about it during the exchange. And Crawford and Bowman were actually friends at one point. I have to admit to a failure. The incident was not Game 6, it was Game 4. I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact and was in no way fair comment, and was motivated purely by ignorance. I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future.

I was thinking of Game 6 of the 1997 Western Conference Finals in the NHL when the Wings were winning 6-0 and Brendan Shanahan beat Rene Corbet to a pulp and Marc Crawford was leaning over the divider between the benches and screaming at Scotty Bowman. He was less than a foot away from his face. If Crawford had reached over and slapped Bowman in the head he would have been fired immediately -- and that's hockey.

I havent watched this in a long time, but at the end when they are describing what became of some of the players, wasn't the centerfielder just missing? like nobody had any idea what happened to him?

When he does apologize, it's gonna feel as sincere as Ryan Leaf's famous 'apology'. "Protect myself" Dude is 6 foot 10 and had to punch (or slap) over 3 of his own guys to land it. It's laughable. A lot of things coming from the Michigan athletic department are either laughable or tragic these days. Warde's department is kind of a mess.

I don't know how you keep him NOW. The only precedent for something like this was Woody Hayes punching Charlie Bauman - and he was fired on the flight home, literally and he was an absolute legend there. There are some lines that can never be crossed. All Bauman did was intercept an Art Schlichter pass. Art must have bet on Clemson that night.

Wade Manuel just made a statement saying he called and apologized to the Wisconsin AD and that Mary Sue Coleman called their Chancellor and apologized (I don't think she needed to do that). But Warde made it sound like they were going to wait until the Big 10 made their decision. This is weak. Very weak. Maybe Warde should be out too.

No, he has to be fired. Same thing Woody Hayes did. Doesn't matter if he landed a punch or a slap and it doesn't matter if he hurt the other guy or not. The fact is that he turned it into a brawl - he started it. The other coach did grab his elbow for walking away from the handshake - he shouldn't have done that, but the reaction was way over the top. There was separation by the time he threw the punch/slap, he can't say he felt threatened and reacted. He's the Head Coach of a major university, there is no excuse for this. Cheney THREATENED Calipari, he never got to him. I don't think he would have punched him if he got close enough, but if he had thrown a punch/slap at Calipari, he'd have been fired immediately. John Tortorella once threatened a team in the hallway, but it was one of those situations when you know you've got people to separate you, so you make the threat knowing you aren't going to get close. I've seen that in real life a time or two. Plus this happened a week after football ended, with no Sunday afternoon NBA games and no baseball news. So guess what the #1 story in sports will be for the next 2 days? It won't be the NBA All Star practice. He needs to be fired before the Monday morning news cycle. There is nothing he can say to excuse it and his attitude in the post game interview didn't help.

He should be fired, He's a coach. He can't do that. Doesn't matter if it was a punch or a slap, doesn't matter if he landed or not. He threw the first punch. Michigan has no permanent President, which could make this situation ugly, but it's no different than Woody Hayes throwing a punch at Charlie Bauman. He wasn't going to hurt a kid wearing full pads, but that was not the issue. That's embarrassing.

But still, he can't even say the players names? That's a disgrace. Not on Dan's part, but on the owners - if that's their stance. Dumb little things like this make me believe that this lockout is not ending soon. I hate baseball continue this slow suicide.- 1,851 replies

Okay, I heard this on the radio today during Pat Caputo's show while I was driving around doing errands and swearing left and right about winter. They said that Dan Dickerson can't say the names of the players on the Tigers roster. Is this true? If it is, we've gone way beyond ridiculous here. I don't know if they were joking, but is Dickerson employed by the Tigers or by WJR? now granted it was Pat Caputo and for a sports writer his use of vocabulary is limited and as recently as 3 years ago he thought the NFL wild card teams played each other in the playoffs (and he was the Lions beat writer for the Oakland Press for several years).- 1,851 replies

Intentional. You can tell by his lack of surprise after the collision. I wouldn't drill the next guy, but I would have a word with my pitchers about every time that batter comes to the plate.- 1,851 replies

We aren't seeing MLB until June, if at all. Baseball is not in a position to fuck with secondary fans because their loyal fan base is dwindling fast. Stupid, stupid, stupid.- 1,851 replies

At the end doesn't it say "For Carl" ?

Motor City Sonics replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
Sorry, the next game was in Atlanta and it looks like A.J. Minter is the last pitcher to bat in the bottom of the 4th, he bunted a pop up behind home plate that was caught...............how pitchery. Zach Greinke actually didn't pitch that game but he did pinch hit in that game - and got a single !- 1,851 replies

World series had pitchers bat in Atlanta. So game 5 Kyle Wright batted in the bottom of the 3rd. And that was that.- 1,851 replies

So he becomes the answer to a trivia question. On the other end of that, who was the last pitcher to bat? (I understand that there may be pitchers that pinch bat in the future, but who was the last pitcher to bat as the pitcher?)- 1,851 replies
