9/30 @ 7:40 Detroit Tigers vs Minnesota Twins
Motor City Sonics replied to Tigeraholic1's topic in Game Threads
I really want them to get to 77 wins. That would be a nice number. And a near-miracle considering the first month. -
Yes, Miggy's 3000th against the White Sox, the same game they plunk Abreu twice would be perfect.
-
I think he'll finish at 2,993. I would love to see him do it at home and I know that as of right now we start on the road next year, but I am about 80% certain that the season will not start on time.

Oh, Hi Stan, welcome to the new board.

By the way, Ted's had the vaccine.

Oh yeah, well your father didn't respect JFK's body when he shot him !

I am pretty sure that if Jesus returned and absolutely proved he was Jesus beyond any reasonable doubt and he started preaching Jesus-y things like loving people no matter what, whatever perceived flaws or differences they have with you, and aiding the sick and helping the poor by making sure they are clothed, sheltered and fed, and taking care of the planet, the only home you have, you know, actual stuff we've been told he stood for, the current Republican Right Wing Christians would absolutely shred him and pick Trump over him and then would still wave the Bible around to back it up.

Oh, that vaccine salad dressing - taste like sh*t. It has the mediciny aftertaste. Just go back to your regular Wishbone. -

Hey, a nurse in our area was selling stolen vaccine cards to those who were not vaccinated. $200 a pop - and the kicker is that she used lot numbers from Moderna doses they had on hand at the VA hospital where she worked. So the scenario could have played out where people claiming to be vaxxed got sick, researchers saw the same lot number and then assumed those doses were bad, potentially scaring thousands of people into thinking they got a bad dose. She's 37, she lives in Southgate. She said she was doing it to pay for her child's orthodontist. Well, I am not going to be satisfied with probation time for her. She needs to go to jail and congrats, you're only 37 and you will likely never ever work as a nurse again. Well done, creep. -
One guy can't rebuild things, but one guy can sure as hell destroy it all, and he's not finished.

I am very forgiving of Campbell's mistakes right now. He's desperate for that first win, and lets be honest, he left them with a 66 yard field goal attempt...........the poor schmuck had to see some buy break a record. I doubt he makes the same mistake again of playing not to lose this year. Just keep going balls-out here. The fans know your roster stinks, they'll appreciate the effort that way when it doesn't work. Probably don't want to do that once you get some really good players here and you are playing for something. The biggest plus I have noticed so far is that this team went from quitting in games to never giving up. They got destroyed in the 49ers game but fought their way back and made it a game. The Packers game was just a great veteran QB figuring out their terrible defense and shredding it. The game Sunday they fought like hell. The defense held Lamar Jackson in check for the most part. That's what we want to see..........play hard, we're used to the losing, but we don't like teams that quit. Lose for that draft pick, but lose in an interesting way. So far, so good.

What I don't like is they assumed we were dumb enough to believe they had suitors for the guy. Nobody wants that guy. First of all he's slow and outside of NE he's never been good. Plus, he apparently was pulling a Titus Young and not playing in the proper position (tying to make plays he wasn't designed to make) and it was throwing everyone off. You saw the immediate difference the next week with Anzalone too. That's why they were so fast to cut him, not only was he sucking but he wasn't buying in. You can't ask the other 10 guys to risk their neck and let one guy go out and improvise, it throws the whole balance off. Nobody wants that, or at least wants to give up anything for that and any serious reasonable fan knew that. As stated here, if they had gotten anything higher than a 7th round pick, Brad Holmes is a miracle worker. Alas, Brad is a mere human. We know you have to lie sometimes, but don't treat us like we're stupid. Too many of us have been dealing with that for too long.

Does a strike even matter with Altuve anyway? He'll swing at anything. -
There are quite a few good starting pitchers in the 12 - 18 million dollar range. A lot could depend on what happens with the CBA coming up, but they do have some affordable viable options that are better than some of the guys they've signed in recent years.

Victor has hit .325 since the All Star Break. He's going to be in competition with Derek Hill (often-injured), Daz Cameron (hasn't proven himself yet), Kody Clemens, Daniel Cabrera. Don't be surprised if he bulks up over the offseason and tries to hit for more power. Don't snooze on the guy, there still a lot of potential there. As far as trading Mize, that's click bait there, he knows they aren't shopping Mize, Skubal or Manning. They are going to build their team around this pitching and they know one of them is going to end up getting TJ at some point. They aren't messing with their pitching depth, no freaking way. Shopping List - 1 good starting pitcher, 1 adequate starter, a decent catcher for a year and they need to figure out the SS situation. I don't think they need an expensive corner OF. They have Robbie Grossman and they'll use 4 other guys in the OF (Baddoo, Hill, Reyes and maybe Cameron and if Riley earns it, he's in the mix too). They don't need to spend a ton on an OF. They don't need to trade prospects for one either.

Barry Weinberg told us the story of Yogi Berra, hanging out at St. Louis' spring training and talking about how he just shot a commercial for that insurance company that he called Affliction..............Nobody knew what he was talking about until he mentioned the duck and everyone was like "Oh..........Aflac" and then he said "Yeah, they got 3 of dem ducks, but none of 'em really talk".

Fields got sacked 9 times last week? Wilson and Lawrence are on terrible teams and Bill Belichick's getting exposed without Brady and without cheating. Look at well Justin Herbert did last year............it was because the Chargers were already a good team. who got a high pick because of a ton of injuries the year before. If Trey Lance was starting he'd have a great advantage too, but the 49ers are easing him in.

Wojo brought up a great point last night about why college football seems more competitive this year. The transfer portal. Teams who once had 2nd or even 3rd string players who would start for 80% of the country are losing those players as they become starters at other schools. Mel Tucker's played this brilliantly.

I went to see Hall & Oates and Squeeze a few weeks ago at Pine Knob. I had never seen them live and they were really good even though Daryl's voice was not 100% (Dude is 74, high notes are a little too high now). I was shocked at how young the crowd was, at least on the lawn. Many of them probably weren't even born the last time these guys had a hit. It was surprising and I am wondering if it's because of Daryl's internet show, which is fantastic.

Noah Yorke, son of Radiohead's Thom Yorke sounds NOTHING like his Dad, right?

Also, you know what's going on in Dearborn, right? We have a mayor signing off on things when he can't remember his own children and doesn't know what year he graduated high school (1890 was a answer he gave in a deposition). That's ridiculous. Either someone is signing his name or they are having him sign things without him having any idea what's happening. People should be going to jail over this.

He tried to buy them out and they weren't selling so he decided to go ahead and knock down his building without permission (and the city told him not to do it) but he did it anyway. The whole saga is still ongoing. That happened to the UFO Factory right by the old Tiger Stadium. The owners bought it when it was worthless and some jackass wanted to put condos there when it became more valuable, but they didn't want to sell, so he basically took a wrecking ball and deliberately slammed their building and destroyed it. They didn't give up however and have rebuilt.

I thought of a treatment for a film where a fire and brimstone preacher (I had Gene Hackman in mind), who was quite hateful, starts hearing a voice in his head and starts doing things for the real downtrodden like AIDS patients and starts diverting money towards actually helping people who really need it because he thinks he is hearing the voice of God - because his voice is telling him exactly where to find people that he's never met and his deeds are working miracles in people's lives and he starts changing his stance out in public. He gets assassinated, of course, by his own staff and the end of the film the coroner states that he would have died within a year anyway because he had a massive brain tumor. Would have called it "Heal Thyself". Then Steve Martin did a lame movie where his touch actually healed people and my idea flew right out the window.
