I think all those things are factors, but I think maybe the biggest is that when he was with the Cubs and Mets, he was one of many good players (and he was good), but he never had to carry a team. He comes here and he is THE MAN when he does - he is no longer one of many, he is the leader and I think his mentality changed. I don't think he was suited for that role. With the other teams - he wasn't necessarily the focus of the opponents, but with the Tigers he was and they did a better job of exploiting it. All we needed out of him was to play to career averages and wow, significant drop in 2022 and then off a cliff the last two years. It didn't work. Tigers need to accept that, regardless of money. You can go with a platoon of Sweeney/Navigato/Leonard and get more. Navigato is Italian for Navigated.....let him point the way !!!!
