2024 - 2025 Detroit Tigers Offseason
Motor City Sonics replied to AlaskanTigersFan's topic in Detroit Tigers
I'd rather just stick with Vierling in that role. He's fine there. He's already here - assets don't have to be sent elsewhere to have him here. It would have been like trading Bobby Higginson for Jayson Werth...........same guy, basically. -
The team is competitive year after year and they average 16K And a lot of that attendance is there to see the Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, Guardians and Orioles. They just aren't all that into it. Might help if the stadium wasn't a concrete bunker with no personality and hard to get to. And to think, Tom Monaghan looked into moving the Tigers there.
-
And honestly, why should the taxpayers foot the bill. I see how it works in some places with a deep passion for a team, or a historic team, where loads of businesses depend on that team. Tampa has none of that. Lukewarm fanbase that is just as likely to be rooting for the road team, no real roots, they jettison their anchor star players the second they deserve raises and there is no real financial district around that awful stadium. Nashville would flip out over a Major League Team. The rumored stadium site right next to the football stadium. Lots of things just walking distance or a quick shuttle away. The Rays are a bit of an afterthought in Tampa.
-
Yeah, they're done in Tampa. They're moving to Nashville.

Clout Chasers on the internet are one of the biggest Pet Peeves for me. There is one named Johnny Somali who goes to countries who are famous for their politeness (Japan and South Korea) and stirs up trouble by verbally assaulting regular people and smashing things in stores and throwing food all over the place. People give him money for this. It explains a lot about the state we're in as a country here. Americans are basically trash to the rest of the world. People in Korea started hunting him and he has been assaulted several times (something Koreans typically don't do). He was trying to flee the country, but since South Korea is a peninsula with the only escape by land being North Korea, they found him and arrested hmi. Anyway, he's being indicted for several things like using AI to post pictures of him doing sexual things with a woman who doesn't even know him. He's also got about 30 other charges pending and his passport has been revoked This is how he was making a living. A better living than most of us. How sad.

But we already have Matt Vierling. He's just a slightly better-hitting version of Vierling. Don't need to trade a prospect to get Vierling. -

And he's already here. Aim higher than this, please. (not you, Chris & Scott) -
I guess this is the week we'll really see.

That is such a let down. There is so much better out there. They are not going to repeat the insane thing that happened this season. Spend a little, man. $80 million payroll and $25 million is in one guy. Come on, man. Give us something good here. Give us something exciting for a change. Tigers are going to bland this together like Yzerman is doing with the Wings. -

If I'm Skubal, I might want to wait until AFTER November 20th to be in serious contract negotiations. But maybe that's just me. Might be some extra bucks in that hardware coming his way. I don't expect Skubal to be a Tiger going into the 2027 season. -

Soto? You should try half a gummy next time. Mets, Yankees, Dodgers and that's it. Anyone else is wasting their time. -
No you can't. My dad died in 2005, I am sure he still gets emails.

Is Jerry going to buy the media company of the person that asked that so he can fire them?
-
Some folks warned about Caleb when he was in college. That he had a lot of holes in his game. But we're seeing proof of the dilemma of bad teams. You need to draft a QB to be the face of the team, but you probably shouldn't play them until you build a decent team around them. Is Bryce Young as bad as he looked last year? No. He just had nothing around him. Is C.J. Stroud as great as he looked last year? No, but he had a much better team around him. The best thing to do is what the Packers have done. When you have an aging QB, draft your future QB 2-3 years before you plan to use them. But the Packers have never hit rock bottom. I think the Lions were smart to draft Hooker last year. Let him watch, hope we don't need him. Bears bad coaching didn't help Fields and it isn't helping Williams and their decent start was the benefit of scheduling more than anything else. Hope they don't take Ben Johnson away, but Ben is eventually leaving.

Which is why they low-balled him now. Which is silly, because he's going to win it. But even if Clase wins a close race, should that mean less money for Skubal? Come on, man. Don't insult the guy. I have my doubts about them locking him up. I just fear we go the Tampa Bay way and anytime someone is in line for a pay boost, it's bye-bye. You can do that in Tampa where you have a ****ty fan base, you can't do that here. We're way more into this. -

Vogt probably should get it. Stepped into a team and immediately lost their ace, First place pretty much all year, right? Heck of a job. All AL Central, eh? -

My preference is aiming higher than Jake Burger. .301 OBP. What was all that talk about knowing the strike zone again? Plus .925 at 3b. Really? I heard that today and I was flattened again. Tork was a .295 OBP. This is some kind of improvement. Geez, even a fading Paul Goldschmidt could be a mentor for Tork. My fear was because they made the playoffs, ownership would say "well, we did it LAST year without spending". My hope was Manea/Danny Jansen/Pete Alonso. One of them. One big name. My expectations are more like Quintana/Pivetta/Carson Kelly/Jose Iglesias or a quickly fading Paul Goldschmidt. Even that expectation feels like it's lowering daily. Quintana would be fine, need another starter and a lefty, Carson Kelly is fine because he already knows the coach, staff and team and Jose Iglesias has become a very good singles hitter that can platoon at SS/3B with Sweeney & Co. He's turned into Mr. One-Year Contract. Fine. Can we just be in the conversation for one of the Top 15 guys? Not speculation by writers, but actually IN the conversation. Not expecting Adames. Don't want him with the money/time he'll cost. But there HAS to be someone better than Javier Baez, because he's the worst starting player over the last two years........worst in all of baseball. Just a Band-Aid with the hope that McGonigle is what they say he is in two years. I feel like another Canha-like offseason is coming. You own every parking lot in the city, Chris. You can raise your parking lot prices 2 dollars to pay for it. Please, PLEASE prove me wrong. As Truman Burbank's wife screams out "DO SOMETHING !" -

But I think most of the big moves in baseball were usually done by then. There's been a major shift in that within the last decade. It was more fun the old way. -
Actually, I agree with you. You don't air the dirty laundry like that. No, it ain't going well in Dallas, but I really doubt it's from a lack of effort. McCarthy would not have been in this position otherwise.
-
He basically said McCarthy could just leave. It was beyond wrong and it shows how toxic things are in Dallas. But if I am the owner and the season is this lost, I'm suspending him for at least a week.
-
That stretch when you saw @ Dallas vs. Tennessee @ Minnesota @ Green Bay @ Houston You thought 3-2 would be stellar and this team went 5-0. Now you have Jacksonville, @Indy and the Bears for Thanksgiving. I don't see any upsets there. This coaching staff won't allow it. 11-1 is not possible it's very likely. It would take an outbreak of the flu and even then, not sure they wouldn't win all 3. It might help them if they lost one of their last few games to motivate them, but I am not sure they will. Not after this incredible stretch. 16-1 or 15-2 is very possible. Can you imagine the atmosphere in that building hosting an NFC Championship?

New Hot Seat Rankings (Because I don't believe Miami's or The Rams' coaches are in any real trouble) 1. MATT EBERFLUS, Chicago. Should have happened in the offseason, it sure will soon. Maybe very soon. 2. MIKE McCARTHY, Dallas. Jerry doing the midseason thing is still unlikely, but it's really bad there and it wouldn't shock me if it happened now. Maybe even today. Jerry has Mike Zimmer on the staff. But what Micah Parsons said....to me, that's a team suspension. 3. BRIAN DABOLL, NY Giants. The Maras are not very reactionary, but this has gotten bad. Daniel Jones is a great example of why having a mediocre QB have a good year is an absolute nightmare. Then you gotta pay them. 4. DOUG PEDERSON, Jacksonville. 2-8 and the Vikings stunk yesterday, but they still couldn't beat them and Pederson was hired to get the best out of Trevor Lawrence. And now they're coming here? Yikes. 5.KEVIN STEFANSKI, Cleveland. The win over Baltimore shows that anyone can beat anyone on any given Sunday, but it might have spared Stefanski for a little bit 32. DAN CAMPBELL, Detroit. Oh, you're down 10-0 in the first quarter? Oh, down 23-7 at the half? No problem. This like George Costanza living the opposite life for Lions fans. Even when DC makes a bad risky decision it serves a purpose. Amazing.

Get Up talked about the Lions BEFORE they talked about the Cowboys this morning. America's Team.
