Red Wings 2024 October Game Thread
Motor City Sonics replied to slothfacekilla's topic in Detroit Red Wings
There is one quick things that might make Red Wings fans a little happier. Retire #91. This pettiness has gone on long enough. -
People think of Socialism the same way they think about Cancer. Like they are one thing. They are far from it. Cancer is not a disease, it's a class of hundreds of diseases that behave in a similar way. There can't be a "cure for Cancer" because there are so many different Cancers. The "cure" for one cancer will do next to nothing for another one. Socialism is the same way. There are many different shades of it. A lot of people who are Anti-Socialist have gotten unemployment benefits, welfare, medicare, stimulus checks and have no idea that those are Socialism. If you want them to put their money (literally) where their mouth is - then send back those benefit checks. Of course they won't. You can even go to the length that passing any law is a form of Socialism because if we were absolutely not Socialism at all - it would be okay to steal from anyone or harm them. Sovereign Citizens like to think of themselves as some sort of purist - until someone tries to steal from them and then they call the cops. Frauds.

I adored Teri Garr. There is a Martin Scorsese comedy (yeah, I know), and it's a DARK comedy (it's Scorsese) from 1985 called After Hours. There are some serious laugh out loud moments in it and Teri has a very small but very memorable part in the movie as a Monkees-obsessed waitress. The part had to have been written for her. It's perfect. It's a slow-burn of a movie but it has plenty of little payoffs throughout. I highly recommend it. If you liked The King Of Comedy, you'll love this. Same kind of tone and New York is a character in the movie too. There's even a Cheech & Chong cameo. Cheech & Chong in a Scorsese pic, what's not to love?

Red Wings 2024 October Game Thread
Motor City Sonics replied to slothfacekilla's topic in Detroit Red Wings
We have a long way to go this season and the team can certainly rally, but there is no indication of a spark here. So how much longer should he be given? That's the drag when you hire a beloved superstar to come back and run the team - you may have to fire him, but if it's not working then the name of the GM shouldn't make a difference after a certain amount of time. HALF THE TEAMS MAKE THE PLAYOFFS in hockey and the Wings haven't been one of them in nearly a decade now. That's not all on Yzerman, but we're getting to a point where he needs to show something. No more of this "almost" or "just wait, we're getting there". I can't imagine Lalonde's job is all that secure at this point. Someone needs to light a fire under their arse. Is Gerry Gallant available? -
Why isn't Ben Johnson game planning more for Jaymo to stay out of trouble. The Lions need to fire Ben Johnson. How does he even have a job at this point? And Jaymo was left with nobody out in the world to defend him. Fire Aaron Glenn as well.

Trading Maata shows the Yzerplan has failed. His version of the Verlander trade. We got robbed. It's over. The Wings need to fire Yzerman and convince the Lions to fire Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn. -

All the polls. So burnt out. It has me worried and having trouble sleeping But I keep going back to a few things Do you think a lot of Biden voters have switched to Trump? I really really doubt it Do you think a decent amount of Trump voters are switching to Harris? Yes, I do. And the youth vote. There was a big ground swell of younger people getting into this game when Kamala became the nominee. Do you think they've suddenly abandoned her? I highly doubt that. The youth vote was alienated when it was two old men - now that it's a more youthful candidate (and female) I think those voters are more energized. I know Kamala isn't "young" by she feels young compared to the last 2 election cycles and that youthful appeal is what propelled Obama into office. Lee is right that America has disappointed us in the past, but I can't get past this youthquake that happened when Harris became the nominee. Younger voters are not polled well. They certainly weren't in 2022 when they led the way in preventing a red wave and turning it into a red trickle down your driveway when you wash your car. Biden's midterm when so many still contested his victory and when the economy hadn't recovered yet from Covid, it should have been a massive red wave - which is what many polls said. Oh, and Biden insulting Trump's racist supporters in that rally? That's not even a trickle, in fact, I think it's more likely people would appreciate the fact that someone on the Democratic side said it, because it was the right thing to say. Those people are the floating garbage. It just fits their pattern. Any city, place, island with a high population of darker skinned people is going to be referred to as bad. It's the racism, stupid.

2024 - 2025 Detroit Tigers Offseason
Motor City Sonics replied to AlaskanTigersFan's topic in Detroit Tigers
I don't think they'll be all that active in Free Agency. I could see them singing a couple of pitchers. Guys like Nick Pivetta or Yusei Kikuchi on short-term deals, but I doubt it will be anyone big. I don't see JV coming back. There must be a reason they didn't try to bring Lorenzen back and Flaherty will want to get paid and I don't see this team coughing up they money for him. A shortstop would be nice, but Adames will want at least Javy money and we have McGonigle coming in a couple of years. He's not signing anywhere for 2 years. Maybe you get a band-aid option like Amed Rosario. A backup catcher is needed. I don't know about Dingler in that role. I could see them bringing Carson Kelly back. As far as Alex Bregman. He'll want at least 4-5 years and probably at least $25 million. His sharp OBP drop is concerning and as far as the power numbers, I don't trust power numbers from guys who play in Houston's little stadium. The big moves feel like they'll be from within. Trying to sign Skubal long term and keeping Fetter around. I still don't see this team increasing payroll by much next year. -
Great gig for Will Venable - coming in as White Sox manager. He can go 61-101 and it's a 20 game improvement.

I was there at 10am. They told me I picked a good day because there were long lines Saturday, Sunday and Monday

Kid can't stay out of his own way. He could be costing himself millions. I don't think he's a bad kid at all, but I do think he's incredibly immature. Nothing new, but in this era everything can't be hidden from the public like in the past. But even if there is no arrest or anything major that comes out of this, the Lions will want to move forward with guys they can count on -- guys that put winning ahead of clowning around all the time. Don't need to be a Boy Scout but play your cards right and by the time you are 37 or 38 years old you'll have so much money you can do whatever you want. Dude could buy an island make his own laws. He needs a life coach. I have to understand what I might have been like at 23 with "**** you" money. I tell you what, based on what his dad said last year, he is not making any excuses for his son.

Well I did my part today.

Best - Paul McCartney, Comerica Park, 2011 - How many times do you get to see any of the Beatles. But it wasn't just the historic thing, he was absolutely terrific. Never left a concert in a better mood and I've seen Prince about 20 times and he always blew me away. 69 years old at the time, over 3 hour show and the energy kept building. Worst - Evan Dando (Lemonheads), Blind Pig Ann Arbor, 1995 or 96 -- Evan was a very very nice guy. I am sure he still is. But Evan was deep into drugs and he nodded off in mid song several times. Its not that I was disappointed, but I was actually worried about him. Never have seen an artist crash and burn like that live. I've seen clips of Gene Ween destroying his rep on stage - drugs again. Supposed to do the drugs AFTER the show.

Those who are questioning Anthony Richardson's commitment after coming out of the game from being tired need to read about J.R. Richard and then maybe back off a bit. Be careful. You don't know what could be happening.

2024 - 2025 Detroit Tigers Offseason
Motor City Sonics replied to AlaskanTigersFan's topic in Detroit Tigers
They just can't bring Baez back. If they do, season ticket holders should sue. -
And Byron Donalds is okay with them playing "Dixie". Wow. Sold your soul to the devil.

Because I don't think they are going 17-1 this season, I think they lose this one. Unless they can grab an elite pass rusher somehow before this game. Of course TP will want EVERYONE fired and radio callers will bitch about Goff saying he's terrible, but all will be fine. I think the only team that even comes close to the Lions in the NFC is Green Bay. The rest of the conference is not close to those two teams. The Lions only have 3 more Sunday 1pm games left.

Decker is a concern. Not looking good in pass protection the last few games. All kidding aside, Glenn runs an extremely aggressive defense that will get burned - often, but they also make huge plays and that physicality - that might a reason that teams always lose after facing the Lions. The defense will give up a lot of yards and it seems as if the other team will have one receiver that has a huge day, but doesn't get in the end zone that much. The defense must be better against the rush than they were yesterday, but Pollard is a lot like Montgomery - he is very hard to bring down. I think some of the issues with the rushing defense might have to do with having to use some of those guys to create some sort of pass rush. I hope Jos Paschal is okay. Hearing he missed time due to the cancer he had 6 years ago is really scary. But they absolutely need to find someone. Seems like that position is a bit cursed this year. A lack of pass rush breaks the whole defense down.

The Tampa Bay game was the result of not having your offensive players play at all in the preseason. They were just out of sync that day. I understand why they don't play them, you want them being healthy and not risking a major injury, but there is a price to pay. I think the difference was that Baker & Co actually had played a bit. But there's another reason they lost that game -- because Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson shouldn't have jobs. They should have been fired a long time ago. Do you realize that yesterday they had 5 series when they didn't score? Do you realize that Aaron Glenn just let Tennessee score at will? These are 6-11 coaches who are just lucky.

New #1 on the Coach Hot Seat Rankings 1. Dennis Allen, New Orleans - 2nd degree burns at the moment 2. Antonio Pierce, Las Vegas - blisters will soon form. A constant mess. Bring back Rich. 3. Matt Eberflus, Chicago - Horrible coaching at the end of that game and bad excuses too. 4. Doug Pederson, Jacksonville - still very itchy with some red marks on his rear end. 5. Kevin Stefanski, Cleveland - it's cooled off a bit. The departure of #4 might save him, 6. Mike McCartly, Dallas. He should be #2, but I doubt Jerry does it mid season unless they lose 3 or 4 more in a row. Next year I don't think Belichick would take this job (lack of control), but I think Pete Carroll would. If the Giants fire Daboll, I think Jerry could hire hire him.

I don't believe polls at all. First of all, they don't really have a feel for young voters AT ALL. Remember they all predicted a Red Wave in 2022. All of them. Nate Silver's gut tells him Trump will win. Well, he missed wildly in 2022. He has PTSD from 2016. Plus, I think he might be scared of retaliation (I don't think Bezos is scared of retaliation, I think he made a backroom deal for billions). I honestly don't know how Silver even remains in the game at this point. He hems and haws like a weatherman saying 30% chance of rain (that means they don't know and 30% covers their ass both ways). All those polls in the news are designed for one thing - to generate clicks. They're designed to scare one side or the other. The youth vote will be much stronger this time around than in 2020. Plus I really don't see a lot of people who voted for Biden flipping to Trump, but I get a sense it's a far different story for Trump voters flipping to Harris. Let them have their little Klan rallies. That's got Corey Lewindowski's fingerprints all over it. Let the comedian (nobody has heard of) say that stuff so Trump doesn't have to. They probably loved it on Staten Island, but look at Staten Island's record on race relations. Oh wait, there is none. Staten Island voted for Curtis Sliwa for crying out loud, they would vote for disgraced Rudy if he could run for Mayor again. They'd vote for David Duke.

Wow, I guess their strategy in these last 10 days is amp up the racism. I just saw one of the most racist political ads I have ever seen from John James. If people treated Blacks the way he treats Mexicans would he even care?
