Why the hell should the Lions give him back more than what they took back? Johnson has literally said to fix it they need to give him his money. They can't. They offered to give him his money if he made appearances. It's not like they are asking him to suit up and play again like he originally agreed to do. What's best is if Calvin Johnson just went away.

The Lions have no recent history of extending bad QBs. They let Joey Harrington go. The closest example is probably Charlie Batch who signed an extension. Goff still has 3 years remaining on his contract anyways. He won't be re-signed unless he suddenly turns back into the Pro Bowl QB he was with the Rams.

I do believe they were trying to throw into the end zone but the pass rush got there. They still had a timeout so they could have ran to convert, taken the timeout and had a chance for one shot at the end zone. If they missed that end zone shot, they could have kicked the FG.

I know people like to say they haven't won a game without Stafford in 10 years for the shock value, but he went 8.5 straight seasons without missing a single game.

LOL getting kicked around. They paid him $113 million. They made him the highest paid receiver ever at the time he signed the contract. He agreed to an 8 year contract and quit halfway through and expects to get paid for the entire 8 year contract. Fuck him. I don't care if he never announces a Lions draft pick.

The Lions simply cannot give Calvin Johnson money since that would be against league rules. They would have to employ him. The Lions offered to pay him his $1.6 million but he would need to make appearances. He declined and said he just wanted his money. He can go pound sand. I believe, and I'm not 100% certain, the Lions recouped cap space at the time by getting his signing bonus back.

I'm more about being able to get rid of the last remnants of the Quinn regime such as Flowers and Vaitai. Both can be cut and free up cap space. The Lions are looking really good cap wise for 2023. They will be able to get out of the Goff contract, and the only player on the current roster right now that would be in line for a salary increase/extension is Hockenson.

Those are pre-June cuts. Goff can be cut post June 1st and it's a $20 million dead cap and $10 million in cap space. I find it unlikely they do it. Flowers is $7 million dead cap post June 1st and they would save $16 million. He's probably good as gone next year.

I would have ran the ball to pick up the 1st down, called timeout, and take one shot to the end zone. I read on Twitter that only Swift was looking back for the ball so it looks like they were calling a play for the end zone but the pass rush got there before the play could develop. Too aggressively of a play call. They struggle to get inside the red zone, so when you are there, you need TDs.

I mean, every fan on a message forum is a better in game manager. If he never went for it on 4th down and kicked the FG and lost 44-9 instead, we would be talking about his decisions not to go for it. This is a bad team that lost what few good players it had to season ending injuries. The defense can't hold leads and the offense can't score quickly, you have to go for it. This team can't sustain drives regularly and can't stop teams consistently.

Campbell has already said they have an analytics guy who tells them whether to go for it on 4th down. I'm old enough to remember when the complaints against Caldwell were that he was too conservative.

Lions only have $7 million in dead money in 2022, mostly from Jamie Collins and Tavai. They took the brunt of it this year. I highly doubt Goff will be cut. Flowers is likely to be cut. They would save $22 million in cutting Flowers post June 1st.
