Agree. The season has to count too. You can’t just start playing your best ball late and earn a spot because you are suddenly playing like a top 4 team. That is one of the nice things about a 12 team playoff though. This exact situation could happen.
-
The problem with USC is the defense doesn’t pass the eye test. The chair has mentioned this has been an issue with the committee in past Tuesday shows. USC would statistically be the worst defense to ever make the playoffs if they got in as well as being the first 2 loss team. Oh and let’s not leave out they play in the PAC-12. Never going to happen. They were unlucky Caleb got hurt but that’s life. Regarding OSU, the committee doesn’t care about how close a win is against a top team. They have talked about that before. They view that PSU win as all positive and no mark down for Ohio.
-
We are going to find out if the committee views these championship games as bonus games. I don’t think they do but we will see later. If you lace them up and play, they count the same. I think they should actually count more since this is the most recent sample and shows how a team is playing right now. The goal of the CFP should be to find the careful balance between the top 4 teams right now while not ignoring the full season of work. OSU has quality wins. TCU has quality wins. Bama does not. OSU and TCU only have one loss and both to top 10 teams. Bama has 2. 1) Georgia 2) Michigan 3) Ohio St. 4) TCU I hope the CFP would gravitate towards setting up a rematch in the semi. People will want to see it. The hype will be insane especially if Ohio can return their inured guys. Michigan fans should welcome it.
-
Wins and Losses are still the top determiners. Undefeated TCU was being evaluated on a different tier than OSU because of it. Now they lost, TCU’s full body of work has to be compared to the Bucks, who now have an opportunity to pass them even though they sat at home this weekend.
-
Can TCU really lose and not drop a spot? Not sure that makes sense. Ohio will have the same number of losses, the better top win (PSU), and a better or at least similar loss. Also not sure why Warde Manuel would have any issues with a semi final rematch. He should see it as another easy win.

I don’t think he plays much but they will get him in m and try to get the ball to him a few times. -

They need to find a striker. Their style was ineffective without anyone there to finish in the box. They also need to identify just one person in America or with American blood that can play center back better than Walker Zimmerman. That shouldn’t be too hard. -

Wright will probably come on at half for Ferreira instead of Reyna. Need Aronson in too. Not sure I’ve seen two more wide open goals this entire tournament. Complete defensive implosion. -

This Berhalter clown show needs to end today. US Soccer leadership has no stones and even less accountability and will keep him on for another 4 years to ruin this generation. -
What’s the injury status of JSN and Henderson? They’ve never really had the entire offense fully healthy all year. If they can get those guys back at close to 100% then it’s a different team. JSN is arguably the best player in the country and he hasn’t been right since getting hurt week 1.
-
They were soft of defense. That was never a surprise to anyone. The offense is a machine and that was on display before Caleb got hurt. I think he ran the ball twice very gingerly after the injury. They folded when it became apparent that Clark Kent couldn’t change into Superman.

I’ve got a bunch of small bets covering both sides. Seems like every book is giving out free bets for this match. -

Ugh. Zimmerman back in for Carter-Vickers. Don’t like it. Ferreira in for Sargant is better and worth a shot. -
Cotton Bowl against Tulane is horrible. You lose and OMG you lost to a random G5 team. Win and who cares, it’s Tulane, why didn’t you win by more.
-
Very true. Caleb’s hamstring Injury played a big role in this one. All of his mobility went away as did the read option game that the offense is built around. The defense had been exposed as trash all year and it became a rout once it was obvious Caleb was a shell of himself from the 2nd quarter on. Disappointing to be so close and have it end that way but they were 4-8 last year. It took Lincoln Riley one year to turn it around and they are primed to have a playoff team next year. Caleb and many offensive weapons return and I suspect they will clean up in the portal again this off-season especially on the much needed defensive side.
-
USC is all Caleb. He’s put the team on the back of his cape all year. He pulled a hammy on that crazy run in the 1st quarter and was never the same. Defense is too shitty and Utah too good to be able to win a 50% Caleb.

I agree with this. The decision to not suspend and wait for charges was UM’s call. When it came back felony, then you have to enforce some discipline. If it was really just a minor clerical error the prosecutor would’ve just dismissed. Not suspending him makes it look bad and is straight from the Urban Meyer school of coaching.
-
Exactly Harbaugh and Manuel’s attitude towards a player being arrested on a charge that it later turned into a felony. No big deal then and still no big deal now. They don’t need him this game. Suspend him for Indy and then move on. Set the proper precedent for the team going forward. Even if it’s just for show because this looks bad. You’ve got to admit it’s pretty sad when Mel Tucker and MSU are the ones with more discipline and accountability to the law.

I’d love to read a John U. Bacon article on this situation and the subsequent cover up. I’m sure he’s just like the rest of us and finding out about the October arrest only now.

As when he was with us, Tavai still does his best work on ST. He’s been able to play more at LB than he did with the Lions but it’s the teams play that keeps him in the league. He’d have been back in Hawaii years ago without it. -

He was probably faking it. -
Now that I think about it, Tennessee would be in no matter what and it would come down to a choice of USC or Washington in the Cotton. I think they would take Caleb and USC.
