Michigan Medicine is at such a high standard that their doctors should not be questioned is the same mindset that allowed Dr. Anderson to operate for more than 4 decades.
-
This just popped up in my feed. What a beautiful moment it would be if the Bears actually took an overrated OSU tackle and let Anderson fall to us.
-
It wasn’t just McVey and his system either. Zac Taylor, Matt Lafleur, and even old UM passing guru Jedd Fisch were all around Goff and played a key role in his development. They are highly regarded and are all great with QB’s. A young guy couldn’t ask for a better staff to learn from.
-
I think we both agree here. Again, I never said he was a fraud and his early success was 100% McVey. He’s always been a quality QB and he’s proving that again here without the Rams.
-
He did benefit greatly from being with McVey and Co. especially when his system was new to the league but that doesn’t mean it’s all on that. Multiple reasons can be true at the same time. Goff has talent and is a quality QB. The problem effecting his perception is that he was taken 1-1. He hasn’t lived up to that hype so people want to label him a bust. That’s not fair and it’s not accurate. He’s steadily between 10-15th best in the league and is playing at a higher level than that this year. I think he takes shots from detractors that he definitely wouldn’t if he been drafted later. The Rams winning the SB after he left doesn’t help but there were many other factors involved in that other than just QB.
-
How? Maybe if I said Goff was trash at the Rams but I never said that. He was good in LA but he benefited greatly from SMV’s new offense which played a big part in his robust stats.
-
I think we are all burying the lede in this comparison of Goff and Stafford. Goff was horrible most of last year and at times early this season playing behind an injured OL. He’s been a stud this year as his blockers have gotten healthy and improved. Stafford won the SB behind a dominant OL last year. Retirements and injuries this year has him behind trash and the entire team has gone down the tubes. There are one or two anomalies in the league but by and large most of the QB’s will go as far as their protection will take them.
-
McVey never unlocked his full talent and abilities. He’d still be there if that was the case. The Rams saw an opportunity to upgrade at QB and made the move for Stafford. My point is that using Goff stats from those early Rams days and comparing them to Stafford’s numbers with the Lions undervalues the impact of McVey and staff during that time. They had a lot to do with Goff’s success.
-
Lots of glossing over McVey and his role in the Rams success as well as Goff’s big numbers. SMV took the league by storm with a new approach to offensive football. His staff was a who’s who of top offensive coaches with Matt Lafleur, Zac Taylor, Brandon Staley, Kevin O’Connell all head coaches now. Goff was in a perfect situation surrounded by a seemingly never ending supply of offensive gurus. In many ways, he had the keys to a Ferrari and he wasn’t able to take full advantage of it. He wasn’t bad with the Rams but I do wonder how much more winning those Rams teams would’ve done with a different QB.

After months of saber rattling, the UC board of regents approve UCLA to move to the B1G.

Week Fifteen: Detroit Lions (6-7) @ New York Jets (7-6)

Tremendous similarities between the McVey Rams and the Schwartz/Caldwell/Patricia Lions. They are almost interchangeable.
-
You use Matthew Stafford as a baseline and compare everyone to him. It also helps if you constantly regurgitate stats from 2017 & 2018.
-
If it’s silly to criticize a QB for their age, what is it when you criticize them for their age and their injury status too! He’s old with a damaged knee that won’t play for another year. I wouldn’t take him in the top 4 rounds in the USFL draft.
-
Hendon Hooker is pretty much undraftable. He turns 25 next month and will miss most of his rookie season rehabbing a knee injury.
-
It comes down to how much of this is Goff versus the team around him is finally putting it all together. I don’t know the answer and the next 4 weeks will be telling. At the very least, Goff has been a solid game manager and isn’t making mistakes. I doubt a rookie would come in next year and perform better in those areas. On the flip side, I also doubt whether Goff can keep up this level of play for the next few seasons. Tough choices.

Houston really has a chance to do something special. Trade the #1 to a team like an Indy or Washington for a package with #1’s in 24 and 25. They already have extra firsts from Cleveland in both years. Use the extra pick from Cleveland this year to pick the best OL that you can find. Retain Lovie and run the biggest tank the league has ever seen. Take Caleb #1 next year and hire Lincoln Riley to come along and start building it up with 3 1st rounders in 24 and 25 drafts.
-
I hate this hire. There should be a caveat on those defensive stats from this season. He played in the biggest offensively challenged conference in the country and even then avoided two of their best teams in OSU & PSU.

RIP Legend. There will never be another quite like him and that goes well beyond football coaches.

Week Fourteen: Minnesota Vikings (10-2) @ Detroit Lions (5-7)

AG has paid his dues and this turnaround will get him a shot this year. I think he’d be amazing in Houston. Ben needs more time but he fits the trend of hot young offensive guru that has been the current meta. -
You aren’t useful.

I think he’s definitely going to get that shot. It’s too bad for us that he’s white. -

Taylor Decker deserves a ton of respect. He took a lot of heat in the past and some of it was deserved but he’s been consistently dominant and has taken his game to another level. He should be a Pro Bowler this year. -

Goff absolutely deserves credit for how he’s played recently. It’s been damn impressive. I think the biggest reason for his success comes from how well our offensive line has been playing and Ben Johnson’s game plans and play calls are are dominating opposing DC’s. Goff has a ton of time and there always seems to be an open target somewhere. This plays right into his strengths and helps to make up for his lack of mobility. This run gives me hope that they can build a playoff winning team without a marquee QB and choose to address the defense now and worry about future QB sometime down the road. Nice spot to be in.
