  1. There is some truth to this, but the same people that make this claim anytime we see something like this, do nothing to try and help deal with mental illness.
  2. The GOP didn't even really give them a shot. I have to imagine Emmer withdrew as he was told he wouldn't get the few crazy voters he needed. The GOP did this to themselves. From a Dem viewpoint, it might be good to head into the next election with the Speaker pushing the abortion issue. The GOP would be best served to ignore and hope voters don't fixate on that.
  3. My buddy sent me this. I didn't think he listened to anything outside of 70's rock and 80's metal. The link had a preview with #comedy which had me thinking it was a parody at first, but apparently that's just the name of the album this is on. I can't stop singing it. Queen like feel.
  4. For good reason as well. I really like him and enjoy the passion he brings to his stories. He genuinely cares for people, but he always has trouble controlling that emotion. All that said, his reporting here appears to standup. I really would like to see Nessel address his article, not just put out a presser complaining about the News in which they said they couldn't even print as an opinion piece due to its explicit inaccuracies. I want to know what 'judicial appointment' is planned for Kornak and have someone force Whitmer to address if she is planning on appointing her to a position.
  5. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/opinion/2023/10/20/from-the-editor-gary-miles-the-ags-complaint-against-the-news/71242831007/ Leduff is involved so I suspect some will disregard, but IMO, this is the kind of political corruption, performed by both sides, which ultimately led to someone like Trump because so many people realize this is just standard operating process for so many of these folks. You can go to Leduff's podcast if you want the full background or here but Traci Kornak is Treasurer for the Michigan Democratic Party. The allegation is that she attempted to defraud an insurance company and tried to bribe a nursery home once they questioned it. Nessel sets up a firewall to keep her out of the loop as they investigate. She later asks for the file, gets it, and sends it to the solicitor general asking for process as Kornak is waiting on this to be completed so she can get a judicial appointment. She later claims that the investigation was completed with no wrong doing found, they just hadn't officially closed it therefore the firewall rule was no longer needed. The investigation also claims the whistleblower refused to cooperate, but he says they never got ahold of him, in fact he didn't even know they opened an investigation until Leduff reached out to him regarding it being closed. Kornak hasn't been charged, so my guess is Dems will hope no one pays attention and then in another month or two Whitmer will appoint her to something. Annoying.
  6. I didn't see this one, but in the previous one I felt like the 'blames democrats' while technically correct, wasn't exactly the point he was trying to make. I took it that he blamed the handful of members and of course the opposing party took advantage of it to help ensure it happened. He did argue that it would have been in their best interest in keeping McCarthy over Jordan, which you can sell me on a few arguments, but as a whole, he has to know no one is going to vote against a party line on this unless you 1) can deliver something in return and 2) they trust that you won't go back on it. I can't think of too many democrats would do that for. Only ones I could think Dems would entertain aren't even in the house anymore.
  7. Don't misrepresent this as me saying Jordan is playing Chess while others are playing Checkers, but there has to be a strategy of some sorts, correct? McCarthy, while brutal on him, kept on having votes and in between you'd hear rumors of discussions ongoing. Is the 1 and done voting per day his way of counting votes and trying to determine if his bullying strategy is working or something? Does he think he has to keep voting to show he's 'fighting' to keep Trump appeased? Usually I can identify a strategy even if I don't agree with it, I just can't figure it.
  8. He went to OSU...just like Dahmer. There's 1.
  9. Didn't he miss out on 20 GOP votes in the first vote? 22 this time.
  10. I think James just voted for Candice Miller.
  11. It's being reported Spartz will vote present which gives Jordan some benefit. I can't believe she would have done this without some assurances regarding Ukraine funding.
  12. He also can't win if she has the courage to do what's right..... and allow Biden to find another VP.
  13. I hope you're right, but I feel like a lot of folks opposing Jordan will spin that with all the turmoil going on, they have no other choice but to elect him.
  14. At the time the 'defund the police' talk was loud and we were seeing protests and riots in the streets, folks like Stan absolutely feared that the democrats would eventually make those votes to defund the police. Ultimately, and probably through an Omnibus, nothing changed and now the right wing talk is 'well, they would like too' vs 'they are going to do it'. It'll never happen though.
  15. Agreed, that was uncalled for. I apologize. Legitimate points and i'm not defending anyone, just stating that this is our new current working policy. On a similar level, Democrats (federal) were never going to defund the police regardless of how loud a select few were and how many more moderates still catered to those that pushed that idea. I'm sure Stan said it was going to happen and i'm sure you guys called him an idiot over it (rightly so).
  16. You're over here talking like votes matter. I appreciate the idealistic view of our government, I really do. Controversial issues don't get solved like that anymore. There will be an onmibus package that leadership works out. Maybe the dems give in to some more border funding to get the GOP to vote it in, maybe the GOP gives in on some childcare funding. Because the vast majority of congress wants Ukraine funding, it likely won't even be a concession in the bill. They don't get what they want unless they vote yes, conceding the other side will get what they want. Parties will then be told how they will vote. You may have a handful that reject, but it'll easily pass. 1/3 of all spending in the last 25 years has been done like this, this is not new.
  17. The last 25 years of how the federal government has governed isn't sufficient evidence?
  18. Ukraine is not unfunded. That's laughable. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/06/us/politics/ukraine-aid-congress.html#:~:text=How much has the United, gone to the Defense Department. Contracts have already been finalized that will continue to send arms to Ukraine for years. If needed, we'll do a little "accounting" as well.
  19. Wait, so he did get intelligence briefings and when he did he paid attention to them now? Also, our intelligence would give the president details on how to bypass the Iron Dome and not just a high level concern about the Iron Dome?
  20. I'm not trying to vouch for the party, it's far beyond pathetic right now. But again, Ukraine was always going to get some funding, one way or another. We have been extremely supportive of them as well, so the idea that we're not backing our allies is a ridiculous motion.
  21. You guys seem to think congress holds the purse string, this is 2023, not 1789-2000. There was always going to be a continuing resolution hammered out by a few select folks. Even if it drops direct Ukraine funding to give a 'win' to the GOP, it'll still have some backdoor that allows other funds to be sent to Ukraine. The war machine always gets theirs. Unless Gaetz wins the speakership (which if a vote was held today he'd probably be about 217 votes shy) this is what will happen.
  22. I know Israel will rally behind Netanyahu right now, but isn't he still in power because he was the one that could prevent something like this? I have a feeling when things settle, he won't be around.
  23. Who are we not standing with? Additionally there is no way Hamas saw what happened in the house a few days ago and coordinated this attack in that time period.
  24. No term limits results in some bad politicians, not having them results in even more of them. I'm on board with the rest though.
  25. The "problem" itself can be a gray too. Many MAGA types think it'll solve immigration. My brothers friend lives near Brownsville, TX and isn't too far from the wall. It's a 1/2 mile from the border where she's at and in some places even further away from the border. Once Illegals get to it, they just follow a path built right next to it towards lights for a port of entry. It does nothing to prevent illegals from entering the US as they are already on US ground by the time they reach it. For those areas it gives home owners a little reprieve knowing that strangers won't be walking through their property and gives border patrol a little more time to try and catch smugglers that want to go over it to avoid the ports. It does absolutely nothing to prevent illegal immigration.
