  1. Owners looking desperate scheduling a counter proposal the next day. What happened to playing it cool by locking them out for 7 weeks? Players have the power in the relationship now.
  2. Players are making a proposal currently. I think both sides are too far apart for the season not to be impacted at this point.
  3. They had meetings twice in December regarding issues not related to economics. No meetings have been scheduled since then.
  4. Best shape of his life and he's working on a new change up.
  5. I'm very happy with Baez. I think his overall game will fit well with this team. Durability is important and Baez has been durable. I would have been happy with Correa as well, maybe not as happy five years from now when Correa has five years left and Baez has one. Someone will pay Correa what he wants. They will market him as a star player and make plenty of money compared to what his contract will cost. The difference between the two is payroll flexibility. The Tigers can potentially add another player.
  6. Ohtani for President!
  7. MLB top 100 https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/top-100-draft-prospects-list-for-2022
  8. Still a lot of question marks on this team but huge upside with all the young players as well. We'll probably see some busts but others could step up. I think the lineup will be ok. They will not crush the ball all over the place but they'll play solid defense with good baserunning. The problem will be injuries. They still don't have much depth past the top 26. I'd really like another starter and a couple guys for the bullpen. I'd prefer they do it now than trade away talent in July.
  9. They made some improvements to their running game with Hinch last season and I think they can be even better in that department next year. Maybe near the top of the league in baserunning. That really disrupts the opposing team.
  10. I like the opt outs. It's good for the players and the team. The players should be motivated to play well. If they opt out, the team has options. In Baez' case they could give him a qualifying offer or try to trade him before the deadline but he can block a trade to 10 teams. Rodriguez has already received a qualifying offer from the Red Sox but he doesn't have any no trade clauses. If they don't opt out, it doesn't mean they are bad. They might enjoy playing in Detroit. Baez and Rodriguez are young enough and talented. The contracts seem reasonable compared to what others have received so I think they will be worth the money.
  11. Is this realistic for next year? That's 37.5 WAR. A good starter, better bullpen and better DH could push them to contend. Barnhart 1 Torkelson 2.5 Schoop 2 Baez 3 Candelario 3 Baddoo 2.5 Greene 2 Grossman 2 Cabrera -1 Haase 1 Hill .5 H. Castro .5 Rodriguez 3 Mize 2 Skubal 2.5 Manning 1.5 5th starter 1 Alexander 1 Fulmer 1.5 Cisnero 1 Soto 1 Funkhouser .5 Lange .5 Foley .5 Jiminez .5 Closer? 1
  12. Gotta love people who make your job easier and that's exactly what Baez and Schoop will do for Trammell. He will probably focus most of his attention on young Torkelson. The defense up the middle was a big problem last year. It looks much improved now.
  13. Baez for probably $200 million less plus he plays every day, very good signing. I don't mind the opt out. If he takes it, they get a pick in the draft.
  14. Some guy named Shohei Ohtani. Ask Jack Morris about him.
  15. I'd like to see another starter signed. A reliever or two would be nice. How about extending Candelario for the next few years? The Baez contract certainly allows more flexibility to add more players.
  16. I watched the videos. Thank you. Very happy with Baez. I'm looking forward to many arrows shot rounding second base the next couple years. The baserunning and defense look great too. He looks like he will fit right in with this team's play style.
  17. Never bring a knife to a gun fight. Never bring fiscal responsibility to a drunken sailor spending spree?
  18. MLB owners making it rain like drunken sailors at a strip club.
  19. $25 million per year. 3 years shy of what they gave Arod.
  20. Mlbtraderumors had estimated 6 years $138 million. They thought 6 years might be a stretch since he's 31.
  21. Rangers close to signing Semien for 7 years. Seven!
  22. It sucks that the Mets can do something stupid like sign a guy for 10 years and $341 million. Now everyone expects to get that deal. Doesn't matter if they play every game or are consistent year after year. That's the price tag now. That doesn't mean the Tigers are going to be as stupid as the Mets. I think we see other teams are also reluctant to make that mistake as well. The pitching market has moved fairly quickly while everyone waits to see what Correa will get.
  23. I think Correa is still number one on Detroit's list but they don't want to bid against themselves either.
  24. Yes but just to confuse things he could sign a two year contract right now and that would nullify his arbitration in 2023 but who's realistically going to do that after the past two seasons of mediocrity? He should have made the adjustments the Tigers wanted him to make but now his best bet is to sign for one year and hope he performs like his first two seasons.
  25. No they don't have to go to arbitration this year because he's a free agent now. If they keep him next year he would be eligible for his third year of arbitration but he will probably end up in the same situation again. Nobody will want to pay for arbitration again and he will be released, go unclaimed and become a free agent. This season he can sign for whatever contract he wants but what are teams realistically going to offer?
