trade proposal from the athletic today: debrincat to the wings for zadina and 17.
i would do that in a heartbeat if debrincat would sign a long term deal for less than larkin's. 8 for 8 maybe.
i dont see why it matters to his suspension that some players said it wasnt explained clearly to them (a/k/a they werent paying attention when it was explained). the rule is on the books and he broke it.
ignorance of the terms of the cba is no excuse, lol.
you said avila assembled a collection of talent that was going to be the equivalent of morris/parrish/trammell/whitaker/gibson. that's blind faith.
every time they get any journeyman minor leaguer you say they have talent. youre always saying how great the tigers minor leaguers are.
you just say that because its your favorite team. there's no basis for your opinion other than the tigers are the team you follow. that's why its blind faith.
i wish i could have that kind of belief, but my experience in observing al avila tells me otherwise. and so far, i am right and you are wrong.
i dont think they should cut the guy, but just put him in the pen where he belongs. right next to all their other failed starting pitcher draft picks and trade acquisitions, lol.
getting two major league contributors (tork and keith assuming keith makes it) out of a 5 round draft is probably pretty decent! lol.
but i get your point. everyone was excited about that draft because Al finally drafted players who were consensus picks. no more rey riveras. and so far its been a total bust other than keith. i know tork is in the majors but he's been so bad so far that his career to date has been disappointing.
wrntz needs more velo? sure. he needs to be a better pitcher with a stronger arm. he is not that pitcher.
faedo can get injured in triple a as well as he can in mlb, i suppose.
tanking can work. ask the astros and cubs. and spending on free agents isnt always a magic bullet.
however, what you need is good management to identify talent. we havent had that since dombrowski and that's why were floundering. not because we tanked or because we didnt spend money. its because management has been terrible at identifying talent. period.
will that change now? who knows? we'll just have to be patient with the losing and see.
is there really anything left for them to fo in milb? they just arent good enough. another year dominating triple a hitters wont do anything more. they are bullpen guys, lefty relievers, and occasional 5th starters. they'll never be anything more.
