then why didnt they do it last year? or the year before that? there's probably plenty of logistical reasons behind the scenes that affect timing that we'll never see. he was a head coach in russia and, you know, RUSSIA... i think its been in the works for a while but this is when it worked out timing-wise. the old man has been gone long enough that the bitterness isnt there anymore.
-
that's a terrible ranking for the #9 pick in the draft ywo years ago.
-
who is a better prospect: matt savoie or buch? both are undersized offensive players. savoie is a center but he might not have the size to stay there in the nhl.
-
about time!

i dont agree with how they've done it. otoh, when they think youre ready they call you up. and its worked so far. kasper, seider, raymond, and edvinsson have all had excellent debuts and have been very good players. hopefully one of wallinder/buium/tuomisto break thru in camp. if they do, justin holl will easily clear waivers.
-
strikes me as a depth signing...easy to get rid of if you have to if one of their young defensemen surprise them in camp.
-
the celtics are trying to lose this year.

6-4

because they have no faith in buium, wallinder, and tuomisto.

the penalties would have been negligible if harbaugh had cooperated from the beginning and not been an ass about it. the ncaa has a hard on for michigan but part of that is because harbaugh refused to cooperate with them. yes, that's because he recognized that the ncaa is a joke organization who is handing out punishments to him for buying a kid a hamburger while ignoring the university of miami buying kids hookers and maseratis. but its his JOB to cooperate and he refused, so the university has to pay. he's one of the best football coaches ever, but he's also a ****. and that cost michigan in this instance. the stalions stuff is really a non issue. a slap on the wrist offense that is a minor violation. everyone steals signs. but its the cover up and the repeated lack of cooperation that is the "crime" here.

savoie is a 5'9 center. i'd rather have cossa's upside.
-
rumor that edmonton is asking about cossa/augustine. i dont see a trade fit. their only high end prospect is savoie. also, they dont have anything they would trade to detroit that would help detroit now: front line scoring or top 4 defense. i dont see how a trade works unless they really like savoie.
-
i look at that view of wallinder as the same as the general consensus: big, good skater, but lacks a mean streak. he'll get a call up not because he's barged down the door and demanded one, but because he's out of options after this year anf they need to see what they have. but the wings move very slowly with prospects. he has this year to show he's ready for the next step. cant be any worse than holl.
-
the discussion is always appreciated. but i dont see it for anaheim. they are loaded with cap space.
-
why would they trade mactavish? asp for mavtavish doesnt really make sense for detroit's long term plan. detroit is loaded with young forward prospects, asp is the only high end defense prospect detroit has. why deal him? bear? danielson? sure. but not asp. and i dont know why anaheim makes that move.

legacy sportswriters have been getting the **** kicked out of them by internet sports kids for years. its embarassing. its a dead media. monarrez is a poor man's rob parker or drew sharpe. just offering up contrarian takes for the sake of contrarian takes. and sharpe - for all his flaws - was a lot better at it than monarrez.
-
i largely agree. however, the one issue i have is that with the cap rising, EVERYONE will be able to hand out free agent contracts. and as we've seen this year (and last), detroit is not a destination and wont be until they start winning. its all about the draft classes. but then again, it really was always about the draft classes. there is no quick rebuild in the nhl without generational talents. even then sometimes you end up as the blackhawks.
-
he also had lucas raymond's deal as one of the best.
-
im not disappointed in the pick. it was a good risk to take and he may still end up being an ok backup.
-
he should start the next game and play with better players, see how he does then. while preseason game do mean nothing....i mean....he should look better than that if he's ever going to be good.
-
all the talk about hooker being better looks to be a lie. he looks like the same deer in the same headlights he's always been. very disappointing tonight.
-
three things can be true: 1) pre season means almost nothing; 2) the only real important thing is that the lions stay healthy; and 3) the lions look terrible.
-
the one thing this game needs more of is sterling sharpe... /sarcasmfont
-
i hope they look better than this in practice. the chargers are also playing a fair amount of starters and the lions arent playing anyone. although rakestraw looked like crap.

if the wings had a top line winger he would be a great 3c. in your hypothetical, theyre giving mazur a shot at LW1, and if that panned out the way kasper panned out, copp would be great at 3c. like you said, ideally that's where he SHOULD be on a playoff team. in your hypo, i'd have danielson on the wing before i moved copp to 4C. 4C would be a mix and match with compher if he continues to suck and rasmussen. i was as down as anyone on copp at the beginning of the year, but he turned it around before he got hurt. his resurgence and kasper's emergence started their run, and his injury started their slide last year.
