  1. stars do what they want.
  2. i wonder if this helps or hurts the gop with hispanics in texas?
  3. we'll see what happens in a couple cycles. you could be right.
  4. i dont think im being dismissive that "nothing more will happen." i think things will happen in red states, that i said before. i just dont think a national ban will happen. but i could be wrong.
  5. you may be right. hope not. we'll see.
  6. nobody likes ted cruz, he wont be senate majority leader. and he's not a strategic thinker who puts the party's interests above her personal interests. ted cruz only cares about his mentions on twitter. i dont know about hawley, but he strikes me as more cruz-ian and interested more in hawley than getting republicans in line with a successful national strategy, although i think he's more of a strategic thinker than cruz. mike lee maybe? i would say tim scott but i think he has national ambitions as a future vp. romney is out for sure. not sure who else is out there.
  7. it'll take a couple of election cycles to work itself out. at the very least, if roe/casey is overturned, more states laws will reflect the preference of the voters in those states. blue states will continue to allow abortion on demand, and a lot of red states will not allow abortion at all. the purple states (or the purple-ish states like texas and florida) will be interesting to see where they go. i dont think a national abortion ban will happen. there will be lots of talk about it, but it would be very unpopular.
  8. i said i didnt think they would overturn roe/casey, i thought roberts would come to some decision that whittles away at it but not outright dismissing it. that could still happen, btw.
  9. al avila is the 4th longest tenured gm in baseball. only cashman, rizzo, and rick hahn have been there longer. all three of whom have actually had success on the field, unlike avila.
  10. i doubt it, but we'll see.
  11. i think it will take some time to sort through and it will be different by state (of course). texas will be interesting to see what ultimately happens 6 or 8 years from now.
  12. 18 weeks
  13. i am not.
  14. https://detroithockeynow.com/2022/05/06/detroit-red-wings-prospect-sebastian-cossa-starts-whl-playoffs-4-0-two-shutouts-edmonton-oil-kings/ cossa off to a good start
  15. its amazing to me that avila still has a job.
  16. with alex faedo's appearance the other day, the tigers' 2017 draft has now produced a grand total of -.2 war. which is better than 2016 which has produced a grand total of -.4. which is better than 2015 which has produced a total of - 1.5! give 2017 some time and it may start racking up enough negative war to catch 2015. in fairness to 2016 and 2015, at least they have guys who will make the majors. unlike 2017. where have you gone rey rivera, our nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
  17. could be worse...cubs pitchers have given up only 1 hit....and walked NINE. trailing 4-2 in the ninth. edit: two hits. betts just homered.
  18. only 2 playoff games a night sucks.
  19. the headline does not represent what was actually said. the republicans now have to walk a tightrope between appeasing the crazies in their base and doing something that will be extremely unpopular with the general voting public. its what the democrats have had to deal with and have done a decent job of it so far. we'll see if the republicans can do the same thing.
  20. "McConnell said even if the GOP reclaims the Senate, he would not entertain ditching the 60-threshold rule to pass a national abortion ban, however. 'No carve out of the filibuster – period,' he said. 'For any subject.'"
  21. https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/story/_/id/33855311/2023-nba-mock-draft-gearing-next-summer-victor-wembanyama-sweepstakes can we lose this lottery and win next year's?
  22. you should read it before you comment.
  23. 1) good! i agree. that said, if hutch can be half as good as calvin, stafford, or suh, we'll have something. 2) that's not a high bar to reach.
  24. watched part of the magic johnson doc on apple last night. saw the first two episodes. isiah gets a lot of air time. but anyway, it reminded me of mchale's clothesline of rambis or magic's forearm to isiah's head. now those were intentional hard fouls. dirty fouls. i was telling my wife, if you did thst nowadays you'd get a 10 game suspension, back then you got a regular foul call and a finger wag to not do it again. different game today when what brooks did is considered "out of line" by kerr. but kerr is a jack ass. draymond greene is still on his team, is he not? hypocrite.
