i mean, it was for nick quintana, another great al avila second round pick who is now 24 in A ball. heck, as bad as barnhart has been, that might be one of avila's better trades!
-
what? dont they have a late first round pick and second round swap they can do?
-
mike moore! tim belcher! that one year jeff robinson was ok!
-
i have as much faith in troy weaver as al avila. both were good at tanking and getting top picks, but neither has shown good asset management. at least avila signed a proven coach and has reportedly set up a more forwars thinking front office. weaver keeps duane casey around for god's sake.

failed trade.
-
wait until we trade assets for the chance to give a max contract to a center! maybe we can bring andre back too? lol.
-
we go from "look how amazing troy is for signing an all-star/olympian grant" to "he totally got more than houston did for wood because they got all those second round picks and didnt have to take back salary!"
-
someday i want to find someone who looks at me the way JEIII looks at troy weaver.

to be positive, the pistons need a shot blocking big, preferably one who can roll to the basket and even shoot a mid range jumper. that's ayton. he's young. he should improve and be a fit in that respect next to cade. we saw bagley improve offensively when next to cade, but bagley plays zero defense and ayton plays some. to be negative, big fives are growing obsolete, especially in the playoffs when teams go five out. only centers who can move laterally (like williams for boston or looney for golden state) or guys who are deadeye three ball shooters like horford or unicorns like embiid can stay on the floor in today's small ball shooting age. ayton was a non factor when dallas went small. also, there are lots of rumors about him being lazy and more concerned with his ability to score in nba2k than in the actual nba. for the pistons, he would be an upgrade on stew, but at a big cost in dollars and potentially assets, as he is a restricted free agent and phoenix could match the piatons offer or extort players and/or picks from detroit.

grant is better than wood in value. weaver gave up grant for less value im order to get flexibility. flexibility to do what is the question. if its ayton and brunson, were fucked.
-
brunson on a max and bagley. it will be a perfect weaver offseason only if he signs a guy and then stretches him to get MOAR CAP SPACE to sign another big man.
-
i find it hard to imagine weaver doing some smart asset management by taking other team's bad contracts to obtain draft capital. all he does is burn cap space and draft picks to get his guys. if he does get capital, great! thats what he should do. i hope we dont end up with brunson and ayton in am attempt to max space on cade's rookie deal and win 40 games next year.
-
get ready for us to get brunson AND ayton! and get eaten alive by any team that has a player who can jump.

rosenthal on Avila. "Avila concluded by saying, “We’re all obviously working hard to turn this around. And we will.” Rival executives, however, question whether Avila is creative and savvy enough to build a consistent winner.... But with Báez, the Tigers banked on a hitter notorious for his lack of plate discipline. With Rodríguez, they bet on a pitcher who never had led a rotation. And while hitters such as Jonathan Schoop, Jeimer Candelario and Robbie Grossman inexplicably have cratered, the Tigers also are haunted by past blunders. Among them: • Meager returns in trades for Justin Verlander, Nick Castellanos and J.D. Martinez, compounded by failures to move pitchers such as Michael Fulmer and Matthew Boyd when their values were highest. • A drought of homegrown position players that predates Avila’s hiring as GM in Aug. 2015, but might be on the verge of ending with the arrivals of two top-five picks, first baseman Spencer Torkelson and center fielder Riley Greene. • An international program that, while showing signs of improvement, has produced only one positive WAR player, closer Gregory Soto, since the trade of Willy Adames in 2014." alright, which one of you has been talking to rosenthal? chas? while he criticizes Al, he's actually too nice to him for my liking. go for the juggular Kenny!

you seem to have this dream that michigan is going to abandon its football program or sports programs. michigan presidents have been bemoaning big time sports for years and the sports have done nothing but make money and bring prestige to the university. it will continue to do that no matter who the next president is.
