  1. he was sent down the first time for a reason. that has not improved since he came back. if anything, its gotten worse. i'm fine with playing whomever because the season is over, but i suspect the reason grossman is playing is because he gives them a better chance to win than any of the other alternatives. or it could be a matchup thing. baddoo should really be in triple a honing his craft rather than at the majors struggling. is it really conducive to his future to be here at this point? its possible the tigers are picking and choosing their spots to play him depending on the matchup and what they think he needs to work on. i dont know if thats true but it seems like a plausible explanation to me.
  2. this board has clamored for a variety of minor leaguers to be brought up to the big club, and every time they are finally called up they proceed to suck. baddoo and clemens being the best examples. hill also. you can throw torkelson in there as well. greene has been ok but his lack of major league time was due to injury. grossman is playing because there are no major league ready alternatives in the organization and meadows is injured. that's it. that's the reason. he hits higher up in the lineup because historically he has been an on base machine and the lineup is so bad that his current .312 obp puts him in the top third of tigers hitters. the chances are very good that anyone they brought up from toledo would be worse than grossman. once september comes around and the team is still in last place, perhaps we'll see some minor leaguers get a shot. or perhaps meadows will be back. until then, grossman is probably the best choice they have. sadly.
  3. package them to the same team? is there a team that would have room to add three slightly above average relief pitchers to its roster? and if there is, is that a team actually in contention? i'd keep lange and soto but would trade fulmer if i could. problem is, like chas said, youre not going to get anything for them other than a lottery ticket guy. you might as well keep the lottery tickets you already have. unless theo epstein is advising some team and telling them to sell decent prospects for average to bad pitching.
  4. here's one thing about that trade: it will make the flames' position really weird come trade deadline next year. they should have enough to be in a prime spot to make the playoffs next year, but its already clear huberdeau doesnt want to sign there. so they're going to be right back next year where they were last year: superstar players who wont re-sign. do you ride it out with huberdeau next year and try to make a run and let hin walk? or deal him at the deadline for futures even though youre in the hunt? i think they'll keep him and end up giving up tkachuk for only a late first rounder from florida in 2 years. its a tough call if youre a team like calgary.
  5. akil baddoo has an ops+ of 6. as a corner outfielder. yeah, aj hinch is an idiot for not playing that guy. lol.
  6. contreras is the best catcher on the market and will not be cheap to obtain. i would love to see them sign contreras in the offseason on a 2-3 yeae deal if possible.
  7. i dont have mlb.tv. its the directv free preview.
  8. mlb free preview. i dont know how you guys listen to the tigers broadcast. i watch the twins feed so i dont have to listen to them.
  9. you guys off the dillon dingler bandwagon already?
  10. yeah, but franklin perez, daz cameron, and jake rogers.
  11. when you're one of the highest paid state employees in ohio, there's no rush to leave.
  12. you would take huberdeau and weegan over tkachuk and gaudreau? i think calgary did really well in the tkachuk trade if their goal was to be competitive next year. but are they really better than last year? and there will be a lot of pressure on them not to let this happen again next year, so they will be asked to either overpay huberdeau on term or trade him at the deadline lest they get nothing for him.
  13. and the division just got THAT much tougher.
  14. holy cow calgary. that's quite a haul. there is no way the wings could have or should have matched that.
  15. it will be collective bargaining. once we get past the charade that these guys are anything more than minor league football players. its kind of sad in a way. the old way really is dead. when was the last time you can remember a player getting suspended for academics? the charade is truly up. maybe it will involve the nfl actually having to pay its minor league players in the future?
  16. the word is that harbaugh is among the people who dont want to do the new nil pay for play universe. which, if true, is going to get him fired in three years when michigan is losing to ohio state 80-0 and michigan state 45-3.
  17. no theyre not. that's the problem and its why everyone on this thread has been bitching about them for months. michigan is being a slave to the "rules" on nil. everyone else realizes there really are no rules and have been using nil to their advantage. including notre dame. michigan has not. its why michigan is falling behind and will continue to fall behind until they get with the new normal in "college" football.
  18. cause notre dame is paying really well right now.
  19. i thought he'd be a little lower on the slg and a little higher on the obp, but that's what i thought javy would be this year. its similar to what he was in chicago. he swings big - at everything - and if he makes contact, its gonna go a long way. i'm surprised he hasnt been on a really good run yet. like a run where he hits .300 for a month. but his droughts are not surprising. what is a surprise has been his struggles in the field. im used to occasional javy lapses in attention when he gets bored and the team isnt doing well, but his throws to first and his overall defensive numbers indicate he may be in decline and may have to move to second base in the future. that surprises me.
  20. i also remember people - including myself - saying it was ok to pass on a qb two years ago because the lions will be drafting high the next year and can just draft a qb then. except last year's qb class turned out to be not that great. the lions need talent. they need a talent upgrade at the most important position in football. if they have the opportunity to get one this year when they have two first round picks, then i think they should do it. but i dont know what the draft classes in the future will look like, but it is unlikely the lions will have multiple first rounders to trade to move up in those drafts (which is preferable to dealing from your own future first round stash). seems to me that this year would be a good year to try to get one if they can and the price to move up isnt too high. but like i said before, it is likely that most of the teams at the top of the draft will want qbs, the lions may be in a position where they cant get a qb prospect they like because they are picking too low. unless you want to pay a king's ransom to the bears to move up for their #1 pick...which is going to be top 3 almost for sure.
  21. you draft a qb this year so he's ready to take over for goff in 2 years. that's the ideal situation. you dont want to draft a rookie the year goff leaves, that puts a lot of pressure on your rookie and will probably result in a lost season (unless we suddenly turn into the pats).
  22. i think the offense will be decent this year but the defense will still be pretty bad. teams are gonna whup up on the lions linebackers and corners. they still need one more draft and maybe a good free agent to beef up the back 7. if they keep both their first rounders next year, i see CB and QB in their future.
  23. first of all, its a ridiculous hypothetical. but he would still be ted williams, only with better nutrition and an instagram presence.
