  1. i think va and nj were mostly about an off year election with an unpopular democrat president. but there are some cracks in the democrats' coalition. theyre built on the suburbs and minorities. if their advantage with either group begins to erode a bit, and the republicans continue their big advantage with white working class voters, the democrats margin to win becomes much smaller. the democrats' advantage would be to bring trump out of the wilderness. make him the center of attention again. then they go back to look like the party of adults, and the issues that hurt them (police, crt, education) can be classified as "trump" positions again, which will tilt the suburbs back in their favor. the democrats need trump to run in 2024. its their best hope to win (other than the economy turning around).
  2. meh. gave up nothing for a decent backup defensive catcher on a one year deal. its fine. nothing major either way.
  3. the law itself is very very very likely unconstitutional. the issue with this law is the ability to enforce it is relegated to private individuals rather than the state. therefore, the question became "who can you sue to enjoin the law from taking effect if you cant sue the state or a state official" like you usually would do. its a way to get around the usual way one would challenge the constitutionality of the law. the majority of the justices seemed inclined to allow the law to be enjoined (as in, temporarily stopping the law from being passed so the court can address the constitutional aspects of it in a separate hearing). now, this is all going on at the same time there is another case pending before the court on abortion. that's the mississippi case. that case challenges the casey roe line of cases as wrongly decided. the mississippi case is the more important one for abortion law moving forward. the court could overrule roe/casey and basically send the issue back to the states.
  4. heck, can we swap it with okc for giddey and sga?
  5. yeah, its not that he's not a valuable player, its just that he's a solid guy and not a game breaker. its not hockeson's fault the rest of the team has no talent at premium playmaking positions.
  6. typical quinn high floor/low ceiling pick at a non premium position. the cowboys took schultz in round 5 and he's the same player basically.
  7. cade needs to be a trae or luka. that kind of offensive shooter and creative player. those guys arent uber athletes.
  8. this is how i feel too. its how i feel about the whole team. they dont have nba level uber athletes and it makes it hard for them to get offense.
  9. luka's first three games: 10 pts, 26 pts, 19 pts.
  10. has this been the worst debut for a #1 pick in nba history? you can give me all the excuses you want about how he missed training camp and hasnt played, but he's been garbage. total garbage. he's 20, right? it doesnt take that long to get your legs under you.
  11. biden won jersey by 20 points. that's quite a comedown.
  12. are the democrats close to losing....new jersey? a state they won by 20 points?
  13. the bucks - missing half their starters - beat the pistons by 30.
  14. gonna be a lot of hot takes tonight on va!
  15. its going to lose.
  16. the hawks did too.
  17. so youve drafted anthony bennett...
  18. a rare sighting of randy bruer out in the wild.
  19. i always admire your optimism. 🙂
  20. there's a lot of revisionist history going on in here. people said they'd be bad, but not 0-8 blown out by the eagles bad. i thought theyd win 5 or 6 and there were people telling me i was crazy pessimistic. i think 6 was probably the consensus on wins. very few people thought 0-17 was a possibility.
  21. how does that make any sense for the lions?
  22. hey now, let's calm down a bit. larkin's line has looked solid. they've looked like a legit decent middle of the pack first line. world beating? no. but that's good for this team.
  23. in fairness to them, they have played a brutal schedule.
  24. campbell going for it consistently on 4th down has been great. good to see it. the special teams trickery against the rams was great. he has a team with nothing and is trying to generate possessions and points wherever he can. the alternative is for every game to be like the eagles game. the lions have executed poorly because they are a bad team with not many talented players and a horrific player at the most important position in the game. i dont think that's bad coaching, i think that's bob quinn being a bad general manager.
