duren is already a better shooter than ausar. ausar will never be a good shooter. he might one day achieve enough to be adequate, but i doubt it. he does other stuff so well that you can live with it, but it will be hard to craft a lineup with him in it that doesnt have plus plus shooting at other spots.

Mactavish re-signs with anaheim. so we can end the pipe dream of him being traded here. soon to come: ending the pipe dream of any other big name udfa coming here when they re-sign. the only one who might is kyle connor because he's older and winnipeg are skint.

ryan day agrees. 🙂

Alabama has consistently been a top 5 program the entire time smart has been at georgia. its not too much of a surprise that his record has been poorer against them. the last couple of losses have stung though.
-
cossa continues to make the case for why he is not ready to play nhl games.
-
you would think he would mellow with age but he's only gotten worse. like vitale, its become all schtick. side note: he went to my high school.

welcome to the club.

i tend to buy the "youre overrating your own prospects" argument combined with the "you only have so many years with skubal so try to win with him" argument more.

i love a top farm system as much as the next guy, but they didnt have to dismantle the farm system to pick up some useful additions at the deadline, or make a deal before then (or, as you agitated for, sign an alex bregman to fill their massive hole at third base). sometimes the "but that contract will look terrible in three years" argument shouldnt rule the day when you only have so long with your best player. i think its a case of the "smartest guys in the room" syndrome. can we combine harris' scouting with dave dombrowski's ability to make trades?
-
i was all in on their trade deadline. i thought they would identify guys who had positives and that they could fix the negatives. i figured they knew what they were doing. and i - like them - were very very wrong. i know harris is going nowhere. i know they have a seemingly talented bunch in the minors. but nothing is guaranteed. you have one of the best sp's in baseball who you will likely lose after next season, and you may have just wasted your last chance to win with him.

last year they had a horseshoe up their butts for the final 40 games. this year the exact opposite. baseball is a funny ol game.
-
wait yil you hear about the 80s tigers' clubhouse...
-
they deserve to lose given the hubris they showed at the trade deadline. it was either hubris or stupidity. i'm not buying the illitch spending argument. i more buy the harris arrogance and inexperience argument.
-
given this almost unprecedented collapse and the allegations of the old boys club in the front office, is harris in danger of losing his job? if not, should he?
-
Meh lineup produces a meh game. still not really seeing anything from wallinder except skating.
-
scoot henderson out for 2 months.
-
their labor costs just got a lot higher...
-
so they can ltir him and then trade for kaprisov?
-
theyve played well against buffalo and chicago's A- and B teams. playing well against chicago was probably more impressive just because chicago had a lot of first round picks out there and the wings' players looked better. keeping in mind that this is just pre season. lombardi looks good. as G2 sarcastically indicated, it will be fun to see them all go back to the minors so we can watch compher, rasmussen, and chairot and holl tool around again in detroit.
-
is finnie going to play his way onto the team? bedard always said danielson was the toughest guy he played against in juniors.
-
well....he is a grown man you know. he's 40.

i think indiana has a good qb and good head coach. illinois was very overrated, but beating any team big ten team not named ucla 63-10 is an accomplishment. indiana has invested a lot of money in its program and players, they have a good coach, and it shows. i'd put them in the "next in line" tier in the big ten, behind osu, oregon, penn state, michigan, and usc. but in front of nebraska, wisconsin, michigan state, illinois, iowa, washington. big game between osu and washington. i think osu wins a shootout, but washington is a potential powerhouse and jedd fisch can coach (offense...).
