  1. it is if you have a good management team in place. see the cubs and the astros. its not if you dont have a good management team in place. see the detroit ****ing tigers, or the pirates, or the white sox (but the sox rebuild has been more successful than detroit's, which is the definition of damning with faint praise). or, we could be the rays and just keep on keeping on. people used to talk that way about the cardinals too. not so much anymore. but to your point, baseball drafts are such crapshoots that tanking in baseball is probably less of a sound strategy than in other sports. i thought the tigers should have sold verlander, martinez, etc when they did. but what i failed to realize at the time was that al avila was incompetent. fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice....wont get fooled again!
  2. hurts to lose a second round pick but it was obvious he didnt have it. bednar had been playing well, i thought. interesting that they didnt sign him.
  3. #1 overall picks for the last 10 years: brady aiken dansby swanson mikey moniak royce lewis casey mize adley rutchsman tork! henry davis jackson holliday paul skenes not a ton of superstars in that mix....yet.
  4. for the first time in a while i'm sort of excited to see what they do this offseason.
  5. i think teams do this a lot more than we think, especially in a sport like baseball that drafts so many players. teams do favors for agents all the time. basketball is notorious for it. did they know NOTHING about skubal? i doubt it. but boras might have nudged them in that direction.
  6. i find it hard to believe wcf was that involved with the team and drafts. you never heard about him being involved except this one time. i think its millen putting stories in the press to make excuses for himself.
  7. its a different game now. they cant handcheck and play defense. if they were playing with 2004 rules, maybe the pistons do fine. but in 2017 rules? they probably get waxed like everyone else unless the warriors get hurt.
  8. the rumor was he and morningweg wanted quinten jammer. but that may have been apocraphyl.
  9. he cant hit a major league fastball. that's not him being a "head case", that's him not having a basic ability needed to succeed at his job.
  10. why? are we experts? as if the fact that the public - who is largely devoid of scouting information and expertise - didnt have a ready made answer instead of tork thus makes tork's failures not the fault of management. or his selection is ok because fans didnt know any better. its their job to know, not our job. were just fans.
  11. someone better. i'm not a baseball scout, i dont know.
  12. how do you draft a guy #1 for his hit tool and he cant hit a ****ing fastball? i'll wait to hear how this wasnt al avila's fault because CONSENSUS!
  13. ummmm....no.
  14. and when they did do a press conference, gores was a clown. remember how he lauded the team becauae of all their community work? in the midst of a 28 game losing streak? perhaps its better that they issue a press release instead? that said, the release was also ridiculous so maybe not?
  15. so bronny goes 17 this year?
  16. the bulls still owe a #1 pick to san antonio for derozan. they also have portland's #1 from an earlier deal.
  17. because lavine is a cancer. selfish player who is constantly injured now. all the options for "salary dumps" are flawed players making a **** ton too much money. duh. teams dont trade their best players in salary dumps. then again, it beats joe harris. unless were tanking for the 5th pick again.
  18. love how gores uses "i" when he refers to the organization. what a narcissitic prick.
  19. then we should draft him.
  20. the worst pistons gm since who? late stage joe d? billy mckinney? **** vitale? that time they let grant hill bring in christian laettner?
  21. they need a stretch big man and he can shoot, especially when the games mean nothing. and the pistons arent going to be playing meaningful games for a while.
  22. he's going to make $50 million next year.
  23. it will look like professional sports free agency, which is what it is. there are no restrictions for college students to transfer betwen schools, so there are no restrictions for college athletes to do so either. until they unionize, sign a cba, and then sign a contract. which is what is coming next.
  24. kat flexing when he's down 30 is the ultimate kat move.
